GENERAL SUMMARY:
Munson Healthcare Rheumatology has an excellent opportunity for a part time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join their team. The APP will assist with improving office efficiency, consultations, follow-up availability, and inpatient care. The APP will perform their functions based on their personal experience and professional judgement and: (1) discussion with the physician; (2) knowledge of physician preference; (3) written policies of this institution. This position is supported by a team of two-physicians and a physician assistant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Has basic understanding of Relationship-Based Care (RBC) principles, meets expectations outlined in Commitment to My Co-workers, and supports RBC unit action plans.
  • Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.
  • Manage patient care in the outpatient setting under direct supervision of the Rheumatologist: performing comprehensive history and physical examinations, ordering of appropriate lab and radiographic studies, interpretation of lab and x-ray results, perform (or be willing to learn to perform) local joint injections, managing rheumatologic medications, making treatment decisions, and determining appropriate follow up. 
  • Assist with inpatient consultations and dictation of inpatient history & physicals/follow up notes.
  • Completes appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care, and services rendered in the electronic medical record.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries from clinic patients and provides appropriate medical care or counseling. 
  • Communicates with referring or primary care physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate, relate and interact effectively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Is a self-directed professional with the ability to make independent judgments in providing direct patient care, educate and supervise clinical staff, coordinate programs and office operations.
  • Exercising physician-delegated prescriptive authority pursuant to state and federal restrictions. 
  • Attends CME seminars and conferences to maintain licensure and currency in field.  
  • Maintains current BLS.
  • Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react competently, and treat unique needs of the rheumatology patient population.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 
 
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed by the State of Michigan to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. 
  
Nurse Practitioner 
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Master of Science degree in Nursing and is ANCC or ACNP board certified as a Nurse Practitioner.
Physician Assistant 
  • Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS), Master of Health Science (MHS) or Master of Medical Science (MMSc) and is board certified as a Physician Assistant
  • Experience in rheumatology is preferred. 
  • Maintains continuous certification related to NP or PA training.
  • Candidate must apply for and be granted appropriate clinical privileges through MMC’s normal credentialing processes before rendering services.
