Safety Engineer
Description
Summary: Ensures OSHA and ISO 9001 compliance and drives process optimization projects to improve workflow and reduce costs. Investigates all employee safety incidents and reconciles safety issues with the respective department. Has a strong drive to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment, with a desire to lead peers in positive safety changes.
Time Utilization: Normal business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 10% travel schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate special projects and customer schedules. After-hours support may be required on a limited basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
1. Coordinate internal safety audits and ensure overall OSHA compliance within the organization. Provide/coordinate OSHA training to associates (Powered Industrial Trucks, LOTO, etc.)
2. Maintain supplier scorecards with Avetta and ISNetworld.
3. Serve as contact for equipment safety issues. Communicate internally and externally regarding equipment related accidents, coordinate safety retrofit, and ensure implementation of retrofit.
4. Conduct program inspections and audits, summarize key findings, and develop and present recommendations.
5. Investigate root cause of safety issues and implement measures and procedures to eliminate repeat errors.
6. Develop, author supporting management procedures for, and maintain safety and environmental programs consistent with regulations and company policy.
7. Perform job hazard analysis to identify loss potential of our systems and processes.
8. Review and revise location standards, policies and practices as necessary to assure they are current and in concert with company and/or regulatory requirements.
9. Train associates, supervisors and other employees in the areas of general safety and environmental awareness, and specific program requirements.
10. Maintain required records, prepare reports and files as necessary to meet corporate and regulatory requirements.
11. Conduct plant inspections; audit implementation by affected personnel.
12. Support the organization and coordination of emergency responses.
13. Lead corrective action teams to identify and resolve problems.
14. Collaborate with customers, MULTIVAC U.S. engineering, and production facilities around the world to ensure regulatory and standards compliance, including technical specifications and safety matters.
15. Participate in risk assessments for all packaging machines that include ancillary free- standing equipment, as such constitutes a “line”. May require participation in risk assessments at MULTIVAC Germany and with 3rd party suppliers.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and 3 years' experience in safety & environmental role; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong technical aptitude, including the ability to quickly and efficiently learn applications, systems, policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of SAP, CRM, and project systems, procedures, and structure is preferred.
Knowledgeable in EPA, OSHA, federal and state regulations; OSHA certification or equivalent certification preferred.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Physical Demands:
The associate must regularly lift and /or move up to 15 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly to talk or hear.
