The Scheduling & Production Planning Manager is responsible for overall site production operations. Creates a work environment which promotes safety, quality, delivery, and cost-effectiveness. Effectively develops teams that can achieve corporate improvement objectives. Accountable for all aspects of plant production performance while ensuring objectives are attained in a cost-effective manner. Drives best practices through the organization and leads process improvement.

- Load new jobs into the schedule and position them so all jobs will ship on time and the presses run as efficiently as possible.
- Check that stock will be available for scheduled start.
- Once you have a stock arrival date, assign a promise date for each job. The promise date is when you expect the plant to have the job ready to ship based on requested date, stock arrival and production availability.
- Check that plates are made & mounted in advance of press start.
- Block out down time on presses. Block out vacation time for press and finishing operators.
- Adjust the press efficiency and job run speeds as needs to keep the schedule accurate.
- Adjust work orders to match production changes asked by the production floor
- Remove or add work centers to production jobs as needed.
- Communicate changes to the floor for “break in orders” to be sure they are ready for press when needed and the work moves smoothly to the next department.
- Lead the morning materials and scheduling meeting.
- Create master estimates for repeat items or product types
- Add any relevant notes that are needed each time produced
- Make updates to master estimates as needed
- Purchase dies as needed
- Create production job using either a sales estimate or master estimate as the basis
- Maximize make ready efficiencies on press by combining like items into one production run taking into consideration:
- New vs. repeat item
- Customer required dates
- Based on knowledge of product and equipment, create production job with proper work centers and layout
- Add any relevant notes that are needed for this production run
- Review works instructions for completeness and accuracy
- Create job jacket for the production job and forward to plate dept.
- Receive change order request from customer service
- Make the required change in the product estimate and reconfirm the production job (pushes change to purchasing and scheduling)
- Update the requirements to match the changes made
- Advise CSR that change has been completed
- All back orders receive a new job number
- This individual is involved in the creation of the back order and any specific notes associated with it
- An ideal candidate is someone with a background in high volume and complex flexographic and/or digital printing and finishing, and scheduling/planning.
- Requires a high school diploma, GED or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in scheduling/estimating or related preferred.
- Must have manufacturing experience. Printing industry experience highly preferred.
- Exhibits a safety-first attitude in all that is done, from proper personal protection equipment compliance to keeping the work environment safe and hazard-free. Compliance with all workplace and safety standards required.
- Ability to work independently in an office and manufacturing environment.
- Sound reasoning skills and risk assessment abilities in order to make production and/or scheduling decisions that will directly impact the customer.
