The Plate Technician is expected to support all press departments, by ensuring a quality product is produced for the printing process.

Responsibilities:
- Understand and adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the employee manual.
- Understand and support the Corporate Mission Statement, Values, Vision, and Operating Principles.
- Adhere to mandatory daily stretch, safety requirements.
- Meet attendance standards.
- Practices and sustains Lean Manufacturing and 6S procedures.
- Seek to improve the ink department process through recommending equipment enhancement, process improvements and procedure changes.
- Use good judgment and “best for business” tactics when dealing with trouble shooting problems and opportunities.
- Request help from the Production Supervisor during peak periods.
- During slow periods or as otherwise necessary, assist other departments.
- Assist in participating in Root Cause Countermeasure activities to identify areas where improvement is needed and put a plan in motion to address those areas.
- Report and participate in safety incident investigation while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Work with all departments to assure that production schedules, purchases, procedures and capabilities are maintained & followed resulting in exceptional product produced for our customers.
- Maintain appropriate and legible HMIS labels.
- Follow all established Plate Making and Plate Mounting standard work.
- Must be cross trained in both Plate Making and Plate Mounting areas.
- Must be able to follow Production Schedule and pull all order in a timely manner.
- Initiate and complete proper paperwork for standard work and pharmaceutical orders, such as First Article Sign-Off sheet.
- Make sure plate jackets are updated with current labels.
- Communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group situations to Customer Service Reps, plate
- makers, and the Art Department.
- Determine plate types and quantities of plates for each job.
- Ensure quality of Plates Made is acceptable to current documented standards.
- Ensure the correct numbers of plates are made based off the listed colors.
- Ensure plates are made in a timely manner to meet press-scheduling requirements.
- Plate Maker is responsible for taking completed Plates and accompanying paperwork to Plate Mounting.
- Keep Plate Mounters and Supervisors advised on Production Order status.
- Plate Maker is to check plates for defects prior to mounting. Inform plate making of the defect and request a new plate(s) be made.
- Plate Mounter cuts plates to proper length for mounting.
- Pull correct tooling as documented on Work Instructions.
- Examine Cylinders prior to mounting to ensure they are defect free and have good gears and bearings.
- Ensure the proper cylinder is used (hard case, A-B-C) and cylinders are of the correct tooth size & correct undercut prior to use.
- Mount correct quantity of plates and number of plates based off listed colors.
- Mount Plates in correct orientation (Unwind) per work instructions.
- Maintain work center equipment in good working order. Report equipment problems immediately and fill out work orders as necessary.
- Seek to improve the Plate Making/Plate Mounting process through, recommending equipment enhancement, process improvements and procedure changes.
- Rotate weekend “On Call” coverage.
- Required to work 12 hour shifts; required to work weekends as scheduled on a regular or as-needed basis.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1 – 3 years of experience working in the printing industry or 1 – 2 year degree in printing-related field preferred.
- Good oral, written communication and Interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
- Proficiency with MS Office: Word, Excel & Outlook.
- Able to learn new computer programs and complex procedures in a highly customized, dynamic, multi-tasking work environment.
- Able to work well under stress, multi-task, set priorities, and manage/adapt to frequent changes.
- Able to identify small changes and recognize what those changes are.
- Able to read and interpret instructions.
- Able to provide a positive attitude that sets the tone in creating an enjoyable workplace

- Physical Demands:Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. While performing the duties of the job, employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, use hands to write or type, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Manufacturing environment requires hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is not regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles.
