We are currently looking for a Press Operator Assistant to join our team.  The Press Assistant role is responsible for the scheduling and planning of all manufacturing equipment, set up and support of printing presses in accordance with the printing specifications and customer requirements/expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• • Practice safety and safe use of equipment.
  • Ensure you work according to the written Safe Operating Procedures applicable to the task and machine
  • Wear prescribed and issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in the correct manner.
  • When moving to another machine, ask to be trained in the written Safe Operating and Working Procedures applicable to that
  • Report all accidents, incidents and injuries to the Shift Manger/Team Leader immediately or before the end of the Shift
  • Avoid spillage, contamination of environment
  • Ensure Pre-make ready is done on time (1 hour before end of current job)
  • Double check the specifications on the job ticket vs cylinder issue form
  • Check the job description and ensure that the cylinder numbers are correct on the cylinder boxes and the cylinder shafts.
  • The cylinder should always be loaded on the trolley using the hoist by two employees to avoid injuries and double-check the cylinder numbers to correspond with colours ensuring that the cylinder direction is correct
  • Prepare cylinders on trolleys with clean equipment, ensure that the cylinders are positioned in the correct unwind direction
  • Take the cylinders through to stage area at the Press
  • Ensure quality standard and specification are achieved and improved
  • Inspect cylinders for any damage marks, dents or scratches and wear then record findings on the cylinder issue form thereafter sign the form ensuring there are correct cylinder numbers
  • Clean equipment in the most effective and efficient manner for all jobs, reduce downtime and minimize waste.
  • Ensure that all spillages are cleaned immediately, propose and implement actions to prevent reoccurrence. Report all spillage and what was done to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Record information in the handover book, tier board and housekeeping is up to standard (work area including floors are kept clean at all times)
  • Log/report all near misses/good catches, all accidental damage to machine and equipment – state reason and solution to prevent damage in the future

Qualifications: 

• Matric 
• Print shop floor experience 
• Ability to communicate and interact well with others (verbally and written form); seen as a team player 
• Ability to read and understand a job ticket 
• Ability to work in a team environment with a high sense of urgency for on-time completion of assigned activities 
• Self-motivated with the ability to stay focused and follow instructions 
• Ability to stand and move around press area for long periods of time  
• Assertive and solution-focused 
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment
