Description

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in leading daily store operations, developing team members, and delivering exceptional customer experience. This role helps to drive sales performance, operational excellence, and service standards while ensuring the store is clean, safe, fully stocked, and customer-ready. The Assistant Store Manager acts as a leader on duty, models company values, and helps build a positive, accountable, service-focused culture.

Wage Range: $25/hour- $75k/year

Key Responsibilities 

 

Store Operations 

 

  • Support and oversee daily store operations

  • Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned

  • Open and close store according to procedures

  • Ensure store standards for cleanliness, organization, and readiness

  • Monitor in-stock levels and merchandising standards

  • Execute operational checklists and routines

  • Ensure policy and procedure compliance

 

Team Leadership & Development 

 

  • Supervise and support team members across departments

  • Train and onboard new hires

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance support

  • Reinforce service and operational standards

  • Assist with scheduling and labor coverage

  • Promote accountability and teamwork

 

Customer Service Excellence 

 

  • Model Mother’s Market service standards

  • Proactively engage with customers on the sales floor

  • Resolve customer concerns and escalations

  • Support service recovery and satisfaction efforts

  • Ensure consistent, friendly, knowledgeable service

 

 

 

Sales & Merchandising 

 

 

  • Support promotional and merchandising execution

  • Ensure displays are full, accurate, and properly signed

  • Monitor product movement and sales trends

  • Partner with department leaders on ordering and replenishment

  • Help drive sales and basket growth initiatives

 

Safety & Compliance 

 

  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations

  • Enforce safe work practices

  • Support loss prevention and shrink control

  • Ensure incident reporting procedures are followed

 


 

Qualifications 

 

  • 2+ years of retail or grocery leadership experience

  • Prior supervisory or key-holder experience preferred

  • Strong customer service background

  • Experience coaching or training employees

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (associate or bachelor’s preferred)

Physical Requirements 

 

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and stocking

  • Comfortable working in refrigerated and dry storage areas

  • Ability to move throughout all store departments daily
