Assistant Grocery/Refrigeration Manager

Pay Range: $18.00-$23.50 per hour 

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the profitability of the departments, meets labor, sales and margin goals determined in accordance with the Store Manager
  • Interview, hire and maintain qualified personnel in all positions reporting directly and indirectly & recommend compensation
  • Supervise all Refrigeration/Grocery department employees and activities on a daily basis
  • Assist store manager to identify training needs, performance reviews, promotions, and terminations
  • Keep employees informed to company/department plans and progress
  • Develop & maintain marketing techniques to educate & familiarize customers with the different products
  • Work extensively in cold conditions
  • Develop and add additional sources of product, both direct and through distributors
  • Demonstrate an increase in the number of customers purchasing product
  • Daily scheduling and working within labor % allowance
  • Maintain ongoing training in department merchandising, rotating, cleanliness, maintenance of equipment and customer service
  • Make sure expired and damaged product is removed from the shelves and entered in the log
  • Ensure quality customer service
  • Establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships with all persons (wholesalers, employees), with whom you interact in managing the departments
  • Prepare and/or recommend & assist in recommending product for weekly ads, catalog & magazine advertising
  • Responsible for proper handling and distribution of all paper work in regards to the operation of the refrigeration/grocery departments (invoices, packing slips, intercompany deliveries)
  • Interact with vendors and customers
  • Continuously review Trade Magazines, Business Magazines to stay knowledgeable and current on market trends, product information and merchandising & examine and analyze competition
  • Attend training & leadership team meetings as needed & hold departmental meetings on a monthly basis
  • Inventory preparation for Refrigeration/Grocery
  • Follow up on customer complaints, suggestions and requests
  • Maintain store standards of cleanliness, appearance and monitor safety and maintenance of equipment and back room organization
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

 

 

Training/Education:

  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate

Experience:

  • Previous experience in Refrigeration/Grocery or related field

 

Ability to:

  • Organize, manage and supervise a department
  • Maintain a positive working environment and promote teamwork
  • Communicate orally and in writing with customers, vendors and staff
  • Prepare and monitor departmental budget
  • Order products to obtain best pricing and highest standards
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Select, train, assign and evaluate subordinate personnel
  • Comply with company standards and directives

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Lift product, singles and case boxes, over 100 times per day, lifted from floor level to carts and shelves, 6” to 6’
  • Carry same items as above, max distance 10 ft.
  • Push/pull carts and dollies of loose and cased product
  • Extended time in walk in coolers and freezers - jackets, gloves and hats provided
  • Stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
  • Climb ladders, squat, bend
  • Extend arms overhead and reach for products and boxes
  • May work both inside and outside in wet and/or cold weather conditions
  • Stock shelves using carts, box cutters and dollies

  • Must be available to work various shifts as needed
