We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to join our multifunctional Cloud Platform Team as a senior individual contributor responsible for executing complex technical delivery and providing healthy challenge to architectural and delivery approaches.
As Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, you are the "show me the code" voice - the experienced engineer who validates feasibility through execution, challenges designs with implementation reality, and delivers platform capabilities with excellence. You work alongside Cloud Architects and Technical Leads as a peer contributor, bringing deep hands-on expertise and delivery experience that grounds decision-making in practical reality.
This is a senior IC role, not a leadership position - you lead through expertise, execution quality, and constructive challenge. You own complex technical problems, mentor through pairing, and set the standard for what great delivery looks like.
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-On Technical Delivery
- Lead delivery of complex, high-risk technical solutions
- Build and manage infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) across networking, security, governance and platform services
- Develop CI/CD pipelines, automation tooling and observability solutions
- Write robust tests and clear documentation (runbooks, diagrams, implementation notes)
- Troubleshoot issues across infrastructure, networking, identity and security layers
- Optimise for performance, cost, security and maintainability using secure-by-design principles
- Participate in on-call support and lead incident response
Healthy Challenge & Technical Validation
- Provide constructive challenge to ensure solutions are practical, scalable and deliverable
- Identify risks, dependencies and hidden complexity early
- Validate feasibility and push back on unrealistic timelines or approaches
- Recommend alternative solutions based on hands-on experience
- Ensure standards and patterns are fit-for-purpose and pragmatic
Collaborative Design & Refinement
- Contribute to design sessions with implementation-focused insights
- Review architectures and patterns to ensure they are buildable and scalable
- Break down work into clear, actionable deliverables with defined acceptance criteria
- Validate estimates, dependencies and readiness of work items
- Conduct thorough code and configuration reviews (e.g. Terraform, policies, pipelines)
- Support team capability through constructive review feedback and guidance
Knowledge Sharing & Mentorship
- Mentor engineers through pair programming and hands-on collaboration
- Share best practices through workshops, demos and technical deep-dives
- Contribute to documentation, playbooks and knowledge sharing
- Build team capability through practical guidance and example-led learning
Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Detailed experience in cloud infrastructure engineering
- Deep expertise in Terraform at enterprise scale
- Strong Azure experience across networking, security, governance and platform services
- Proven delivery of complex solutions in regulated environments
- Experience working in cross-functional Agile/Kanban teams
- Track record of constructively challenging designs and proposing alternatives
- Strong troubleshooting experience in production environments
- Experience mentoring engineers through hands-on collaboration
Essential Technical Skills
Infrastructure & Cloud (Terraform & Azure)
- Terraform: modules, state management, composable architectures, testing and best practices
- Azure: networking (VNets, Firewalls, private endpoints), identity (Entra ID, RBAC, PIM), governance (Policy), compute and PaaS services
DevOps & Automation
- CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
- Git workflows, testing approaches and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python)
Architecture & Design
- Secure-by-design and infrastructure best practices
- Cloud design patterns (networking, resilience, observability, disaster recovery)
Microsoft Ecosystem
- Experience with two or more of: M365, D365, Fabric, Power Platform
Please note: This is a full-time, permanent position with an opportunity to work hybrid in our London office.
