Job Profile
This role focuses on reviewing and clearing sanctions, PEP, and adverse media alerts with accuracy and within defined SLAs, while conducting enhanced due diligence where required. You’ll manage escalations, ensure quality through peer reviews, and maintain audit-ready documentation using screening tools and open-source research. The position requires strong AML screening experience, attention to detail, and proficiency with major screening platforms, supporting compliance with regulatory standards and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Alert Handling (Primary):
- Review and disposition sanctions, PEP, and adverse media alerts with high accuracy and within SLA.
- Distinguish false positives vs. true matches using defined matching criteria (name matching, DOB, geography, fuzzy thresholds).
- Conduct enhanced due diligence (EDD) where needed and document rationale clearly.
Escalation & Quality:
- Escalate potential true matches or complex cases to 2LOD/DMLRO/MLRO with precise summary notes.
- Apply four-eye controls (where required) and peer QA to ensure consistency.
- Remediate QA findings and contribute to continuous improvement.
Research & Screening Tools:
- Use screening and research tools (e.g., open-source information, OFSI, OFAC, LexisNexis).
- Validate PEP classifications and media severity/relevance.
Documentation & MI:
- Record decisions in case management systems with clear rationales and evidentiary links (screenshots, URLs).
- Contribute to MI/metrics (volumes, hit rates, true match rates).
Policy & Control:
- Adhere to Sanctions, PEP, Adverse Media, Name Screening, EDD, and Record Retention policies.
- Apply Risk Appetite and escalation triggers consistently.
Risk & Regulatory Awareness:
- Keep up to date with relevant UK/EU/OFAC sanctions updates and FCA expectations (SYSC, JMLSG guidance).
- Identify control gaps and propose improvements (match rules, thresholds, keyword lists, stop words).
Skills & Experience Required
- 2–5 years AML screening experience in sanctions / PEP / adverse media alert clearance within financial services or fintech.
- Proficiency with at least one major screening platform such as; LexisNexis, World-Check, Dow Jones, Bridger / Firco / Actimize, Accuity (LexisNexis advantageous).
- Strong understanding of:
- Sanctions regimes (HMT / UK OFSI, EU, OFAC; UN—awareness of extraterritorial considerations).
- PEP/RCA frameworks, role materiality, risk tiering.
- Adverse media taxonomy (severity, reliability, recency, relevance).
- Demonstrable false positive reduction capability and consistent SLA delivery.
- Excellent investigative writing and documentation skills—audit-ready rationale, clear escalation summaries.
- Attention to detail, data hygiene, and comfort handling high volumes.
Please note: This is a full-time, 6-month fixed term contract with an opportunity to work hybrid within the Risk & Compliance team based in our London (Victoria) office.
