The Category Analyst is responsible for supporting the Category Management team in a number of aspects including: product assortment, supplier management, and cost management. This position is located in-office 4 days a week and 1 day remote, at our Central Store Support office (Rockville, MD). You will:
- Prepare materials related to category management decision making
- Analyze and evaluate department, category, and item performance using multiple lenses (financial, promotions, fulfillment, waste, syndicated data); and convey to the category management team in an easily digestible manner
- Perform financial period close analysis, determining root causes for underperforming departments, categories, brands
- Cost change tracking & analysis at various levels: supplier, brand, commodity, etc
- Perform promotional lift analysis
- Collaborate with Category Managers to develop category review presentations, as it relates to assortment, cost, supplier management, syndicated data, etc
- Coordinate with Supply Chain team to calculate forecasts for a variety of demand planning needs, ie. onboarding new brands/items/suppliers, holiday projections, and warehouse planning
- Process and analyze supplier related information - inventory status, scorecard, service level reporting
- Play a lead role in developing and enhancing standardized reporting and visualization analytical tools which drive efficiency for the category management team
What you bring:
- 2+ years experience with business analytics, preferably in category/assortment management, supplier performance management, or supply chain management, in a retail chain environment
- Proven ability to take complex business analyses and projects from concept to completion and make results accessible and relevant to end users
- Strong analytics, insights, presentation, and storytelling skills
- Experience drawing conclusions from imperfect and incomplete data, application of various analytical techniques, and providing decision-makers with metrics for quantitative decision making
- Demonstrates advanced analytical reporting and visualization skills - including building dashboards in Tableau (or similar platform), and combining/preparing data using Alteryx or Tableau (or similar tools)
- Advanced proficiency with Excel, Pivot tables
- Experience with SQL
- Self-directed, innovative thinker with strong attention to detail and easily meets deadlines
- Excellent communication skills (listening, written and verbal) with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to prioritize tasks that change frequently and manage unexpected demands
- Intellectual and analytical curiosity - initiative to dig into the "why" of various results
- Creative problem-solving skills, maturity to handle ambiguity, flexibility to perform in a dynamic collaborative environment
The salary range for this position is $65k - $75k.
