About This Role 
As the Safety Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of MN’s employees and any third party on our jobsites. Your responsibilities include managing and executing our safety program, policies, and procedures, while ensuring compliance with all relevant Federal, State, and local regulations. This position requires a strong background in safety management and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety across the organization. You will collaborate closely with project teams, leadership, and external partners to implement and maintain effective safety practices that align with our strategic objectives.

 

On a Given Day, Your Work Might Include

  • Manages and executes MN’s safety program, policies and procedures. Develops, writes (or updates), and deploys written policies, standards and trainings to address gaps or changes in requirements
  • Ensures adherence to MN safety policies by employees, subcontractors, vendors and any other third parties visiting or performing work at MN offices or jobsites
  • Visits active jobsites to assess working conditions and identify risks or hazards. Ensure safety standards and guidelines are being followed, and that all safety codes are met. Mitigates or eliminates immediate risks and hazards
  • Conducts safety onboarding for new employees and subcontractors
  • Delivers comprehensive safety training for all employees, covering MN's safety programs, policies, and procedures. Regularly updates and maintains training records and schedules, proactively initiating training cycles when due
  • Maintains and updates OSHA, L&I, and workers compensation records. Submits reports and responds to Federal, State and local bodies as requested or required
  • Serves as main point of contact for all L&I investigations and accidents. Ensures that all accidents are investigated, and corrective/preventive action is implemented and sustained
  • Serves as a point of contact for all MN staff regarding the implementation and interpretation of safety policies, procedures and programs
  • Models and reinforces actions and behaviors consistent with the Company's values, mission and culture
  • Works closely with the People & Culture leadership to proactively navigate and resolve claims
  • Interfaces professionally and ensures good relationships with a variety of people, including owners, managers, inspectors, subcontractors, designers, tradespersons, and laborers
  • Conducts monthly safety meetings and provides operations staff with content for toolbox talks
  • Stays informed and up to date on latest Federal, State and local regulations
  • Identifies opportunities and drives continuous improvement related to safety programs, policies and procedures
  • Partners cross functionally on projects and initiatives as needed or required
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned  
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of a jobsite in all types of weather; this may include ascending and descending stairs and positioning oneself in various ways to inspect confined or difficult to reach spaces or areas
  • This position requires frequent use of a computer, including keyboard functions and visual acuity of 20 inches or fewer on a daily basis
  • Must be able to lift up to 20lbs occasionally with or without accommodation
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site hazards
  • Must be on-call to address emergencies, injuries, accidents, and other issues at jobsites
Travel & Vehicle Requirements:
  • Regular travel between job sites and/or the office is required
  • Valid WA State Driver’s License
  • Acceptable driving record & proof of vehicle insurance. MN must be listed as an additional insured party on the vehicle insurance 
What You’ll Need to Succeed 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management (or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • 4+ years’ experience in a Safety Manager or equivalent role
  • 2+ years’ safety management experience in residential construction required. Ideally with a high-volume residential plat builder
  • Certified First Aid, CPR and AED instructor strongly preferred
  • Previous experience developing, implementing, and managing a safety program in the construction industry
  • Workers’ compensation experience a plus
  • Knowledge of construction sequencing, means, methods and code requirements
  • Ability to walk a job site and accurately assess the extent to which safety standards are being met
  • Comfort with conflict, and enforcing rules and standards
  • Ability to interpret and educate others on complex legal and regulatory documents
  • Ability to work independently with little direction or oversight
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to effectively multitask and juggle simultaneous demands while remaining flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to make reasonable, rational, quick decisions while under pressure and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
  • Ability to review and accurately interpret engineering, architectural and other construction drawings preferred
  • Ability to adopt MN processes and standards
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Some fluency with Spanish (read/write/speak) is preferred

Hours & Compensation   
This is a full-time position paying $99,800 - $149,500. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Individual placement within a salary range will vary based upon factors including but not limited to candidate experience, knowledge, individual, skills, and organizational performance.
