About This Role 
The Senior Civil Project Engineer is responsible for all facets of civil engineering work for MN Construction projects to meet company strategic goals. Day to day, this role will participate in site feasibility analysis, provide code-compliant civil engineering designs for site, drainage, utility, and right-of-way work, direct the work of contractors/vendors and eventually a department of in-house engineers and technicians, and review and stamp drawings for permit submittals and construction. The Civil Project Engineer will partner with the Architecture team to help create high quality homes, coordinate with MN Custom Homes business partners and vendors to meet strategic goals and participate in the exciting initiatives we’re bringing to MN!
  
On a Given Day, Your Work Might Include
Leads Civil Engineering Design and Documentation for MN Projects:
  • Undertakes technical and feasibility analyses including site investigations.
  • Performs design and engineering work in coordination with MN Custom Homes standards on a variety of residential drainage, grading, utility, erosion control, and right-of-way improvement projects.
  • Directs the preparation of required engineering submittal documents for successful permit applications.
  • Coordinates Civil Engineering work with associated disciplines, including architecture and other engineers.
  • Supports Architectural Project & Permit Managers to set and meet critical path schedules for design and permitting.
  • Coordinates with technical staff to implement and integrate document production standards and templates.
Review and Stamp Civil Engineering Documents for Permit Submittals
  • Reviews all civil engineering documentation for quality assurance and conformance to company and industry standards.
  • Ensures fully-coordinated, complete documentation for permit submittals and correction responses.
  • Perform regular quality-assurance reviews of all civil engineering work.
  • Is the ‘Professional of Record,” aka licensed Project Engineer, and stamps reviewed engineering documents for submittal under the provisions of MN Custom Homes’ Washington State Certificate of Authorization to practice Civil Engineering.
Coordinate With Company Partners
  • Assists feasibility staff in evaluating sites during the acquisition process.
  • Assists purchasing and construction leaders to develop integrated standards and specifications for site civil engineering work.
  • Supports and manages project communication and coordination between internal departments as it relates to the engineering department work and intersections.
  • Manages and directs resolution of design and permit related issues arising during purchasing and construction.
  • Understands and meets core role expectations for the Civil Project Engineer position, and the interdependencies with other peer leaders within the department.
  • Works to co-own project success through mutual respect and teamwork.
  • Be accountable for meeting strategic goals and target KPIs.
Manage Civil Engineering Processes and Team Members
  • Maintains Professional Engineer license and ensures company obtains and maintains Certificate of Authorization from the state of Washington and any other states required, to practice engineering.
  • Manages engineering vendors and contractors.
  • Builds and maintains a team of engineers. Manages team through the employee lifecycle, to include mentoring and developing team members.
  • Participates in civil engineering design and documentation.
  • Establishes clear expectations and standards for civil engineering work at MN.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or required. 
What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Washington State is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil/environmental engineering or related engineering discipline is required; Master’s or higher level degree preferred.
  • 10 years professional experience working in civil engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working as a lead or managing civil engineers.
  • Residential project leadership experience is desired.
  • Ability to review and accurately interpret engineering, architectural, and other construction-related technical drawings.
  • Experience with Autodesk MEP/Revit, Civil3D and Construction Cloud preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce Taskray project management platform and tools preferred.
  • Pro-actively builds relationships and partner with team members and key stakeholders across the organization at all levels.
  • Stays informed and fully up-to-date on land use codes, building codes, and permit requirements across multiple jurisdictions, communicating these requirements to team partners.
  • Identifies opportunities and drive continuous improvement related to MN standards and work quality.
  • Partners cross-functionally on projects and initiatives as needed or required.
  • Thorough knowledge of permit requirements, submittals, and applicable codes for residential civil engineering.
  • Ability to perform civil engineering design and calculation work independently without supervision.
  • Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and time management skills.
  • Ability to pro-actively manage multiple projects at different stages of design, documentation, permitting, and construction simultaneously while maintaining a strong sense of project organization.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, MS Office, Bluebeam Revu/Studio.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Ability to adopt and practice MN processes and standards.
Working Environment & Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of a jobsite in all types of weather; this may include ascending and descending stairs and positioning oneself in various ways to inspect confined or difficult to reach spaces or area.
  • This position requires frequent use of a computer, including keyboard functions and visual acuity of 20 inches or fewer on a daily basis
  • Must be able to lift up to 20lbs occasionally with or without accommodation
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site hazards, as well as office environment.
Travel & Vehicle Requirements: 
  • Regular travel between job sites and/or the office is required.
  • Valid WA State Driver’s License.
  • Acceptable driving record & proof of vehicle insurance. MN must be listed as an additional insured party on the vehicle insurance.
Hours & Compensation  
This is a full-time position paying $110,000 – $164,750. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Individual placement within a salary range will vary based upon factors including but not limited to candidate experience, knowledge, individual, skills, and organizational performance.
