Summary of the Role:
 
We are looking for a Regulatory Affairs & Certification Engineer II to assist in ensuring Mitsubishi vehicles meet environmental compliance standards and certifications, including emissions, corporate average fuel economy (CAFE), substances of concern, and electric vehicle (EV) related regulations. Manage the review and submission process of emissions certification documents and compliance reports, while also maintaining up-to-date credit records derived from these reports. Serve as a liaison to advocate for Mitsubishi Motors' interests with public agencies and industry organizations.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in representing Mitsubishi Motors to both Federal and State agencies as well as industry groups as needed, particularly regarding the following issues:
    • Substances of Concern (including PFAS)
    • Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure
    • EV Battery Durability/Lifecycle
    • EV Battery Recycling
    • ICE Fuels and ZEV Fueling
  • Aid in reviewing and submitting emissions certification documents and compliance reports to relevant Federal and State agencies. Provide assistance in promptly addressing inquiries from agency staff.
  • Maintain ongoing credit records from various compliance reports including:
    • MOG+NOx Fleet Average Reports
    • ZEV Reports
    • Federal and State GHG Reports
    • Federal CAFE Reports
  • Assist in reviewing and submitting OBD-II compliance reports and in-use data to the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Provide support for timely responses to inquiries from CARB staff.
  • Aid in preparing and reporting U.S. regulatory forecasts on environmental issues to relevant groups within Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA), and Mitsubishi Research & Development of America (MRDA).
  • Develop solutions for routine problems with a broad scope, applying principles and practices of MRDA to moderately complex projects involving environmental concerns.
  • Support other major projects requiring innovative and original solutions.
  • Attend key technical working groups of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (AfAI, or Auto Innovators) as assigned by the Manager, providing reporting and analysis.
  • Strive for maintaining high-quality standards and continuous improvement within the position and the organization.
  • Participate in general testing, cross-functional testing (i.e., Emission Testing, EV Powertrain, and Vehicle Testing Groups), special projects, test trips, evaluations, and surveys as needed.
  • Work to foster cooperation within the group and assist with handling any misunderstanding that might arise in a culturally diverse workforce.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned or required.

    Required Qualifications:

    • 4-year degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification.
    • 2+ years of experience in transportation, regulatory, or certification affairs.
    • Broad understanding of vehicle regulatory affairs and certification processes.
    • Practical expertise in at least one area of regulatory or certification compliance.
    • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    Pay Transparency:

    The base salary for this position ranges between 60K to 80K. The base salary will be based on a number of factors including the role offered, the individual's job-related knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
