Mitsubishi Motors North America is relocating its Headquarters from Cypress, CA to Franklin, TN! In support of our exciting big move, we are looking for a Trade Compliance Specialist to join our Finance & Accounting team. As a Trade Compliance Specialist, you will perform all trade compliance activities relative to the import/export process for whole automobiles, production parts, service parts and Machinery & Equipment.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Administer the Trade Compliance corporate policy for the import/export process.
  • Coordinate the timely import/export activities of MMNA (including shipping schedules, document distribution, and systems updates), in full compliance with applicable laws.
  • Coordinate and ensure compliance with MMNA’s participation in special trade programs (NAFTA, AFTA, Drawback, etc.).
  • Monitor the Importer Security Filing (ISF) Program to ensure timely filing with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
  • Monitor and resolve issues with MMNA’s trade compliance system for the timely and effective transmission of data files to business partners.
  • Develop and maintain databases to ensure compliance with all recordkeeping requirements.
  • Perform product classifications – Harmonized Tariff Schedule Numbers (HTSN), Export Commodity Classification Numbers (ECCN) and Schedule B Numbers.
  • Monitor and coordinate the activities of MMNA’s service providers (Customs Brokers, Freight Forwarders, and Logistics Providers) to ensure compliance with all governmental requirements.
  • Provide instructions to service providers – including contract negotiations, bill of lading instructions and development of standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate all communication with government agencies – CBP, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Census, etc.
  • Monitor and assist with MMNA’s participation in special government programs (Importer Self-Assessment – ISA and Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism C-TPAT).
  • Coordinate compliance requirements with foreign customers.
  • Conduct internal training of other groups on trade compliance.
  • Develop and maintain the department operational budget.
  • Develop and maintain an internal audit program.
  • Represent MMNA as a liaison with industry/trade related groups.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned or required.

What you’ll have:

  • 6 – 9 years’ experience in trade compliance area (Import/Export, Classification, and Special Trade Programs).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in various PC based applications.
  • BA/BS Business/Transportation/International Trade or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed Customs broker (preferred)
