We are seeking a Director of Financial Reporting for a private equity-backed company specializing in mental health services. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of monthly, annual, and market-level financial statements, ensuring compliance with tax and auditing standards including ASC 842, and leading a team of direct reports. This role requires strategic thinking, a strong background in finance and compliance within the healthcare sector, and the ability to effectively manage remote work while maintaining close collaboration with the team.

This is a remote position, with a preference for candidates located in the Metro Detroit Area reporting to the Senior Director of Accounting.

The Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation and analysis of monthly, annual, and market-level financial statements in accordance with GAAP and other regulatory standards. Ensure accurate and timely reporting to support decision-making processes.
  • Compliance: Ensure full compliance with tax laws and auditing standards, including ASC 842. Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting the healthcare industry and implement necessary changes in internal processes.
  • Collaboration with External Firms: Work closely with tax and audit firms to ensure all required filings are completed accurately and on time. Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of two senior accountants with potential for additional reports as appropriate. Facilitate remote work while ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Organize and lead quarterly in-person meetings with the accounting team at the administrative office in Adrian, Michigan, for 3-4 days per quarter to foster team cohesion and strategic planning.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the company's financial strategy and decision-making process. Provide strategic recommendations to optimize financial performance and compliance.
  • Risk Management: Identify financial risks and implement effective controls to safeguard the company's assets. Ensure a robust internal control environment to prevent and detect financial misstatements.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate complex financial information and compliance issues effectively to stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Ad Hoc Reporting: Provide additional ad hoc reporting with deliverables both within the accounting department and to the financial planning and analysis department, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to internal reporting requirements.

The Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPA or similar professional accounting qualification.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in financial reporting and compliance, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role, preferably within the healthcare industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax laws, and auditing standards, including ASC 842.
  • Proven experience in managing audits and working with external audit and tax firms.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience in managing remote teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders
