With offices in the U.S. and Germany, MicroVision is a pioneering company in MEMS-based laser beam scanning technology that integrates MEMS, lasers, optics, hardware, algorithms and machine learning software into its proprietary technology to address existing and emerging markets. The Company's integrated approach uses its proprietary technology to provide automotive lidar sensors and solutions for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and for non-automotive applications including industrial, smart infrastructure and robotics. The Company has been leveraging its experience building augmented reality micro-display engines, interactive display modules, and consumer lidar modules. 
 
To strengthen our team at the Redmond location, we are looking for an Optical Engineer.
  
Pay:
The pay range for this Washington-based position is $110,000.00 – $160,000.00.  Exact compensation offers will vary based on skills, experience, and location.  This role may also be eligible for a new hire equity grant and/or a performance-based equity incentive plan.

Are you passionate about innovative technology, including 3D LiDAR?  MicroVision has an exciting opportunity for a Optical Engineer to become a key member of the Product Engineering team bringing their experience and vision to system design, hardware integration and field testing with a focus on manufacturing. The ideal candidate will be an independent, experienced engineer able to support our automotive 3D LiDAR sensing application. They should be comfortable supporting a wide range of topics in optical design and analysis. 
  
Your responsibilities: 
  • Develop and analyze optical models for product development and concept studies. 
  • Perform tolerancing, optimization and stray light analysis on optical systems.
  • Develop analytical models to predict LiDAR performance.
  • Work with mechanical and systems teams to design fixtures and setups for component and system testing. 
Required Skills 
  • Understanding of principle concepts in optical systems design 
  • Experience required with optical design software (Zemax, Code V) 
  • Hands on experience with laser diodes, lenses, prisms, and other optical components for building and testing components, subsystems and systems 
  • Knowledge of Python and Matlab 
  • Experience with basic statistics, data analysis, report writing and preparing technical presentations. 
  • Solid communication and problem-solving skills, ability to understand complex systems and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English. 
Required Experience 
  • BS in Optical Engineering or related field. 
  • 5+ years of industry based optical engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  
Additional Preferred Experience:  
  • Knowledge of MEMs and LIDAR technology 
  • Concept to product and production 
MicroVision offers a flexible work schedule that could include a hybrid schedule of onsite and remote work, subject to team and business needs.  Individual work schedules will be at the discretion of management and dependent on role and business needs. You must live and reside within commuting distance from MicroVision’s headquarters in Redmond, WA.
 
We are happy to provide relocation assistance for new employees to relocate to the Seattle area.
