Opening:

Position Objective:
This position will be responsible for the development and maintenance of material part catalogs and inventory re-order levels for stock merchandise for LIRR fleets.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain the LIRR inventory Catalog.
- Establish stock items and their related classifications.
- Code and control, new and obsolete items.
- Enter data into the procurement system from internal drawings and specifications.
- Analyze vendor Illustrated Part Catalogs to develop commodity nomenclatures that are consistent with existing items.
- Verify and control adequate stock inventory using standard replenishment processes, generating requisitions and assigning delivery schedules that are in line with consumption requirements.
- A four-year High School Diploma or its educational equivalent (GED/TASC) approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accredited organization.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible procurement experience.
- Must have the ability to translate drawings and specifications into catalog data and have an understanding of the functions related to Material Control.
- Must display strong attention to detail with numbers and words, and be able to recognize similar nomenclatures in order to group like commodities.
- Must be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, and work as a team member with all user departments.
- Must have good judgement, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient word processing and spreadsheet skills (i.e, Microsoft Word and Excel).
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree or a degree in progress preferred.

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to, a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written, and/ or practical evaluation) and interview. Candidates forfeit further consideration in the process if they fail to participate in any step of the process when scheduled. Make-up dates/times will not be given. In addition, LIRR employee applicants must be in their current position for the 12 months immediately preceding the close date of this posting and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record. Absence control violation(s) or more than ten sick days without medical documentation in two of the last three years is considered unsatisfactory attendance. Not all qualified applicants are guaranteed an interview due to the competitive selection process. A medical examination and safety sensitive drug/alcohol test may also be required.
