Overview
The Maintenance Supervisor (Material and Forecasting) II is a cross functional role for the effective management of all activities related to the identification, requisition, forecasting, and distribution of Maintenance of Way (MOW) materials. This position ensures that all materials required by assigned units or departments are available in a timely and cost-effective manner to support maintenance operations.
This role demands strong organizational and analytical skills, in-depth knowledge of MOW materials, and the ability to collaborate across internal departments and external vendors. The supervisor plays a key role in maintaining accurate material forecasts, minimizing downtime, and supporting strategic planning for maintenance activities.
 
POSITION IS OPEN ONLY TO CURRENT MTA/NYCT EMPLOYEES IN THE TITLE OF MAINTENANCE SUPERVISORS, TRACK, THIRD RAIL, INFRASTRUCTURE, SIGNALS, AND ELECTRICAL POWER AND PROCUREMENT
 
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain strict control over incoming deliveries and manage the distribution of materials and tools.
  • Coordinate delivery of sample materials and facilitate end-user inspections for both sample and routine deliveries.
  • Initiate purchases of materials, tools, and supplies through requisitions and forecasting to meet operational needs.
  • Verify accuracy of receiving reports and ensure invoices are processed promptly for vendor payment.
  • Monitor and update stock numbers and descriptions using G-10, G-11, and G-13 forms.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels and promptly notify the Superintendent of any discrepancies in quantity or quality.
  • Identify and verify material parts and ensure proper storage in assigned locations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement, Supply Logistics, Inspections and Testing, the Qualified Products List Committee, the Materials Classification Unit, MTABSC, and vendors.
  • Work closely with the MOW Predictive Maintenance to support forecasting, data analysis, and material alignment with initiatives.
  • Coordinate directly with field supervisors and senior management to resolve material-related issues and provide on-site support when needed.
  • Adjust vendor deliveries to align with construction and maintenance schedules.
  • Prepare and submit material waivers for non-compliant materials to the Superintendent for review and processing.
  • Draft routine correspondence to NYCT staff, end users, and vendors as needed.
  • Assist in preparing annual material inventory reports and forecasting exercises.
  • Deliver periodic reports and presentations to management regarding procurement and material control.
  • Assist in reviewing and sourcing innovative materials, parts, tools, and equipment in support of MOW
  • Respond to emergencies as required.
  • Perform additional material management and forecasting tasks as assigned.
  • Perform field work as required.
  • Assignment may be subject to change at management discretion.
 
Compensation:
 Maintenance Supervisor (Track/Infra/Third Rail/Elec Power) Level II Salary Range: 
1st Step – Entrance            $110,381
2nd Step – 7th Month         $111,951
3rd Step – 2nd Year            $115,888
Maintenance Supervisor Level II (Signals) Salary Range: 
1st Step – Entrance           $112,717
2nd Step – 7th Month        $114,313
3rd Step – 2nd Year           $118,338

Education and Experience:

Five (5) years of satisfactory full-time experience working for a major railroad or transit authority installing, maintaining, and repairing the right of way.  At least one (1) year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of MOW material specifications and construction practices.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn specialized inventory and forecasting software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with technical teams, field supervisors, vendors, and senior management.
  • At least (2) year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. and a willingness to learn and adapt to evolving business tools 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Pro; willingness to learn additional systems such as CMS, TALON, Tunnel View, DRAW, PeopleSoft Power BI, and MTA Marketplace.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with an aptitude for inventory control and forecasting.
  • Extensive knowledge of track right of way materials, tools, and construction practices within MOW.
