•  Selected candidates who are new hires to the MTA will be appointed at the minimum salary of the posted range, in accordance with applicable MTA compensation guidelines and policies. 

  

POSITON SUMMARY: 

This role involves conducting industrial hygiene exposure monitoring across diverse NYCT locations, performing field audits, responding to emergencies, assisting with program reviews and updates, preparing technical reports, managing and operating sampling equipment, providing technical guidance, and handling contract-related responsibilities. The position includes reporting daily to 2 Broadway, New York, NY, as well as regular field work throughout the five boroughs and Yonkers, along with occasional second‑shift and overnight audits, and 24/7 on‑call coverage on a rotating basis. 

  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  

  • Conduct occupational exposure monitoring, including:  

  • Noise monitoring 

  • Silica and particulate matter sampling 

  • Chemical exposure evaluations 

  • Operate specialized industrial hygiene monitoring equipment; coordinate and schedule equipment calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. 

  • Maintain the equipment laboratory and inventory, including ordering sampling media and managing supply levels. 

  • Process vendor invoices and assist with contract management for occupational sampling services, including renewals. 

  • Review and evaluate requests for chemicals proposed for use throughout NYCT to ensure compliance with internal safety and industrial hygiene requirements as well as applicable regulations. 

  • Conduct field compliance audits for industrial hygiene programs, including:  

  • Respiratory Protection 

  • Hazard Communication 

  • Hearing Conservation 

  • Prepare clear, well-structured reports for executive leadership summarizing findings, observations, and required corrective actions. 

  • Review and update industrial hygiene programs to ensure compliance with regulations, incorporate current best practices, and maintain alignment with NYCT operational needs. 

  • Review training records, exposure data, and other documentation; consolidate and maintain relevant databases. 

  • Review safe work plans for special projects. 

  • Develop and provide technical guidance to operating departments. 

  • Serve on call as needed to respond to certain safety and exposure related incidents, including oil and chemical spills, at any hour, anywhere within the five boroughs and Yonkers, on a rotating basis with other specialists. 

  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in the following fields: Occupational Safety & Health, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.  

Minimum 3 years relevant professional experience. 

Certifications: Strongly preferred certifications: CIH, CSP, ASP. 

  

  

DESIRED SKILLS: 

  • Valid driver’s license required and ability to drive within New York City.  

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with various stakeholders. 

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry regulations, particularly Subpart G, H, I, & J. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.  

  • Strong knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, monitoring equipment, standard sampling techniques and protocols.

Final salary is determined experience, skillset, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
