INTERNAL JOB POSTING - ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE MTA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

  

JOB TITLE:                 Request for consideration- Police Officer, Discovery Compliance Northern Region 

DEPT/DIV:                 MTA Police Department 

SUPERVISOR:            Executive Officer, Office of Operations Management 

LOCATION:                Various Locations  Northern Region 

HOURS OF WORK:   Three (3) tours of 12:20 (Twelve hours and twenty minutes) with four (4) consecutive rest days. 

 

SUMMARY: 

The Department is seeking qualified Members from the rank of Police Officer who are interested in being assigned to Discovery Compliance- Northern Region. The Discovery Unit is responsible for fulfilling requests for all discovery materials that the MTA Police generates. Officers will be responsible for enhancing arrests and tracking them through the criminal justice system. The officer will also determine if warrants are issued due to failure to appear and update databases. 

  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide administrative support to internal entities.
  • Perform data entry on the MTA PD Intranet 
  • Submit required discovery compliance materials electronically to District Attorney Portals.
  • Record Keeping 
  • Case enhancement
  • Case analysis
  • Become familiar with and perform redactions for video/audio files.
  • Assist with transition to new records management system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned for Discovery compliance operations. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Qualified Police Officers must, at a minimum, have the following qualifications/requirements to be considered for appointment.  Officers currently on probation are not eligible for consideration. 

  

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Police Officer with the MTA Police Department
  • Knowledge of MTA Discovery Compliance Policy and Procedures
  • Proficiency in preparing reports
  • Highly motivated and organized
  • Exhibit good time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Prior experience in administrative unit preferred
  • Prior experience with video/audio redactions preferred
  • Commitment to serve in this assignment for a minimum of two (2) years
  • Advanced communication skills including, but not limited to, being able to interact with District Attorneys, Court Clerks and other agency representatives
  • Working knowledge of New York State Discovery Reform
