POSITION SUMMARY 
The Position will support the Director of Car Systems Engineering (CSE) and will be responsible for all engineering functions related to the maintenance, upgrading, and obsolescence management of electrical and mechanical systems across the existing revenue car fleets.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Manager of Car Systems Engineering will oversee all passenger railcar operating systems, including Propulsion, HVAC, Door Systems, Electronic Brake Control, Communications, Lighting, high‑ and low‑voltage power supplies, inverters, trainline functions, and overall systems integration. Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading technical design reviews, approving engineering documentation, and providing formal recommendations based on detailed report analyses.
  • Coordinating system inspections, testing, and validation activities to ensure compliance with engineering standards and support revenue car testing and SMS programs.
  • Managing and guiding a team of electrical and mechanical engineers responsible for system evaluations, troubleshooting, and project execution.
  • Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders such as Maintenance and Overhaul Shops, Emergency Response, MTA C&D, Central Electronic Shop, Law, Office of System Safety, Procurement, consultants, and external vendors.
  • Overseeing technical and administrative processes including the issuance and approval of engineering drawings, test reports, car specifications, System Upgrade Bulletins, and Configuration Car Change forms.
  • Developing, managing, and executing Loan Agreement programs used to qualify multiple subway car suppliers.
  
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
1) A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, project management or a related field and a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience of which two (2) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity   - OR -
2) A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. 
License / Professional Certification
NYS - P.E - Professional License
