Summary:
The Rapid Transit Investigations Superintendent is responsible for conducting rail incident and accident investigations that meet the criteria of the Public Transportation Safety Board (PTSB), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). 
 
Responsibilities
The Rapid Transit Investigations Superintendent is responsible for conducting rail incident and accident investigations that meet the criteria of the PTSB, FTA, and NTSB. The selected candidate will investigate all New York City Transit (NYCT) Department of Subways (DOS) collisions, derailments, near-miss incidents, and serious employee injuries or fatalities, side door drags, as well as any high-profile incidents. The incumbent will conduct investigations and prepare comprehensive incident and accident reports covering all aspects of DOS activities, including but not limited to personnel, training, operations, maintenance, and repair activities, to identify causal and contributing factors and recommend corrective actions to prevent future incidents or accidents, ensuring the safety of our customers, employees, and infrastructure. Additionally, the Rapid Transit Investigations Superintendent will be required to make timely notifications to the PTSB, FTA, and NTSB on criteria-based incidents and accidents on a 24/7, 365-day-per-year basis. The selected candidate will provide technical advice on DOS-related matters and advise Senior Management on safety-related practices in their area of expertise. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
 
Compensation
Salary Range -$96,277-$136,290 -Grade D  
This is a UTLO position - Floor rate -$139,396 
 
Education and Experience 
Education Degree Required: Baccalaureate or an equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited college may be considered in lieu of a degree or a satisfactory equivalent. Five (5) years of progressively responsible transportation experience, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity. 
  
Desired Skills 
  • A bachelor’s degree in safety management or a related field
  • Knowledge of NYCT rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of investigative skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of safety practices and Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Understanding of NYC Transit Equipment, technical standards, operations, and organization is required
  • Knowledge and understanding of accident/incident investigation technique policies and procedures.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Appointment may be at a comparable level to current level of selected candidate (if necessary)
