JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the day-to-day Diesel Shop operation as it relates to daily make up of trains, running repairs and periodic inspections and the RCM program of diesel- hauled cars and locomotives in the Maintenance of Equipment Department. This includes directing a 7-day, 24-hour operation involving two large operations at Richmond Hill and Morris Park. The major objective is to supply the necessary diesel equipment to maintain on-time performance in accordance with the Transportation Department's timetable requirements. Position is heavily responsible for answering and correcting defect and repair information, identifying failure modes and patterns, and resolution of operating problems through the failure review process.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Provide leadership and direct Master Mechanics and General Foreman on diesel maintenance procedures, along with mandated requirements of Federal Railroad Administration/ Association of American Railroads (FRA/AAR).
- Improve diesel equipment performance and reliability.
- Daily analysis of log activities for equipment failures
- Administer departmental and corporate policy to staff personnel.
- Effectively monitor compliance of work standards and production requirements of the diesel fleet.
- Assist General Manager- Diesel Shops & Yards in interdepartmental and corporate planning activities involving change to the diesel operation.
- This includes working with outside agencies on specific planning projects. To provide
- expertise of all aspects of the diesel operation. To properly account for program management against corporate goals.
- Maintain active line of communication with Chief Mechanical Officer (CMO), General Managers,
- Assistant Chief Mechanical Officer (ACMO), Deputy General Managers, and Transportation
- Department Managers to ensure that all Diesel Shop operations are constantly done in accordance with corporate and mandated programs.
- To provide safe, reliable service to our customers.
- Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to guidelines of company safety policies and procedures.

- Ensure all FRA and AAR mandates and standards are adhered to as well as legal, ADA and Safety requirements.
- Reduce number of employee and customer accidents

- Ensure the General Manager is kept abreast of actions/activities that affect the department.
- To ensure business needs of the department are met.
- Performs other duties as assigned

- May be required to work hours outside regular work hours, as applicable
- Observes the work performed by contractors, as applicable
- Reviews invoices and approves them if the work has contractual standards, as applicable
- Addresses performance issues with the contractor when possible, as applicable
- Escalates issues to other parties when needed, as applicable
Qualifications:
- Must Possess a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial engineering, or business management. In lieu of a degree, 14 years of related Railroad experience / knowledge of train operation & passenger operating rules, coupled with technical expertise of diesel-hauled car operations may be considered.
- Extensive Railroad knowledge of train operations and passenger operating rules, coupled with the technical expertise of diesel-hauled car operations.
- Progressively responsible, related experience with proven successful record of managing management staff as well as a variety of management functions.
- Experience with handling personnel and labor matters, as well as implementing and managing Company policy and procedures and labor contracts.
- Must Possess 10years of extensive related Railroad knowledge of train operation & passenger operating rules, coupled with technical expertise of diesel-hauled car operations.

- Actual salary offers may vary based on individual work experience. The annual salary range is subject to change and may be modified at the company’s discretion.
