JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing inspections of Metro-North’s stations and facilities to identify items and conditions that require repair or maintenance to keep Metro-North Railroad stations and facilities in good repair.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform daily and annual inspections of Metro-North’s stations and facilities on cyclical basis.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports and photographs pertaining to inspections and findings on a daily basis.
  • Maintain database of observed defects and repairs to be utilized for creating task orders and monitoring repairs.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic understanding of carpentry, masonry, sheetmetal, electrical and plumbing fundamentals and ability to recognize defects in the same.
  • Basic knowledge of structural components commonly found in stations or similar structures.
  • Ability to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to work in varied railroad environments (i.e., right-of-ways, platforms, , etc) and varied tours of duty.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and with little supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledgeable of MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel) or comparable applications.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associates Degree in Engineering or related field.  Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials may be considered in lieu of degree to include 2 additional years of related experience.
  • Minimum two (2) year experience in building maintenance or building maintenance programs, construction, or related field.

 

The following is/are preferred: 

  • 3+ years experience in building maintenance, construction or related fields

  • Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).
  • Actual salary offers may vary based on individual work experience. The annual salary range is subject to change and may be modified at the company’s discretion.
  • Employees driving company vehicles will be subject to License Monitoring and must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MTA drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
  • Current employee applicants should be in their current position 12 months prior to starting a new role and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record.
