Position Summary   
This position is responsible for directing the maintenance operations for all Automated Fare Collection (AFC) equipment (including OMNY) installed throughout the subway system, and at certain out-of-system locations during the evening, nights, and weekend shifts. The incumbent will ensure that all AFC and OMNY equipment in the subway system meets its operational requirements for availability and reliability including prioritizing and managing the performance of service calls, preventive maintenance, software installations, hardware modifications and safety through a maintenance workforce dispatched from multiple field offices systemwide.   

Responsibilities:  
  • Direct the maintenance operations for all Automated Fare Collection (AFC) equipment, including OMNY, installed throughout the subway system and select out‑of‑system locations during evening, night, and weekend shifts. 
  • Ensure all AFC equipment meets operational requirements for availability and reliability by prioritizing and managing service calls, preventive maintenance, software installations, hardware modifications, and safety through a maintenance workforce dispatched from multiple field offices systemwide. 
  • Oversee maintenance, repair, and security of AFC and OMNY equipment during off‑peak shifts, ensuring reliable operation of all fare collection devices. 
  • Deploy and direct maintenance staff during evening, night, and weekend hours, ensuring timely response to service calls and effective use of available resources. 
  • Manage preventive maintenance activities, system upgrades, and software enhancements for AFC/OMNY equipment during non‑revenue hours. 
  • Investigate and resolve Cassie Case complaints, ensuring complete and well‑documented closure. 
  • Monitor and report on maintenance operations each shift, evaluating performance against targets and recommending improvements. 
  • Implement updated maintenance procedures and oversee employee training to support systemwide operational enhancements. 
  • Direct support operations during off‑hour shifts, ensuring compliance with established safety protocols.
 
Education and Experience:  
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Electronics, Electromechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, and six (6) years of full-time related experience, of which three (3) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity.  
   
Desired Skills  
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical and electronic based revenue collection equipment. 
  • Ability to solve complex maintenance problems. 
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage maintenance resources dispatched throughout the subway system.  
Selection Method:      
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.      
       
All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
