JOB SUMMARY

A CDL CUSTODIAN DRIVER performs general cleaning and porter tasks in assigned areas, including public access areas, employee welfare facilities and stations.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to:

  • Sweep, mop and wax floors manually or with aid of equipment.
  • Clean restrooms, ticket offices, windows, exits and entrances, tunnels, platforms, waiting rooms, shelters, elevators, overpasses and underpasses, and other areas as assigned.
  • Empty trash receptacles.
  • Monitor assigned areas for cleanliness and other issues.
  • Report station defects and possible safety concerns.
  • Post public notices and check public address systems for functionality.
  • Complete daily assignment logs and run sheets in order to document work performed and stations cleaned.
  • Mail pick-up and delivery.
  • Power wash station floors, underpasses, overpasses, etc.
  • Perform custodial tasks with minimal disturbance to customers.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Monitor facility to ensure restroom is maintained, fully stocked and clean.
  • Operate and maintain equipment.
  • Report any defects or issues related to equipment to direct supervisor.
  • Operate motor vehicle to travel to assigned areas and transport trash
  • Perform snow removal (i.e. shovel, etc.) in order to access areas such as storage or supply spaces
  • Attend required trainings associated with performing custodial responsibilities (i.e. blood-borne pathogen training, etc.)
  • Perform other custodial duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Written comprehension; ability to communicate and understand instruction; must be safety conscious

 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
  • CDL 

 

The following is/are preferred: 

  • Prior commercial cleaning experience
  • Prior commercial manual labor experience

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicology testing.
  • Must wear prescribed uniform
  • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • For CDL Custodian – Must possess a valid Driver’s License and Class B Commercial Driver's License

 

RATE OF PAY

The starting rate for this position is $26.10/hour (70% of the full rate). The annual wage progression scale is as follows: 

 

Year 1 & 2= 70%

Year 3= 75%

Year 4= 80%

Year 5 & 6= 85%

Year 7= 90%

Year 8= 100%

 

The 100% full rate of pay is $37.28/hour.     

 

This salary is non-negotiable, based on the Transportation Communications International Union (TCU) Bargaining Agreement.

 

Accordingly, please be advised that the terms and conditions of employment for this position are subject to the collective bargaining agreement.

 

SENIORITY

Applicants will establish seniority in the Transportation Communications International Union (TCU), the union representing terminal attendants, in accordance with the union's current collective bargaining agreement.

 

Members of the TCU are subject to an initiation fee and monthly union dues.

 

DETAILS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:    

  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry tools, materials, and discard trash weighing up to 50 lbs.

 

DETAILS OF WORKING CONDITIONS:    

  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions
  • Must be able to work exposed to chemical cleaning materials
  • Must be able to work any and all shifts

Selection Criteria

Due to the competitive nature of the selection process, not all qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the position are guaranteed an interview. To be selected for a position, one must meet the following criteria: (1) satisfy the minimum requirements listed in the job posting, (2) if applicable, successfully pass a written and practical exam, (3) satisfy a background investigation (including but not limited to employment, education, and criminal history), and (4) pass a verbal interview. Metro-North may also require the applicant to undergo a physical ability test and, if the Company extends a conditional offer, may require him or her to undergo a medical examination, which may include toxicological testing. Failure to pass any step within the hiring process will result in the disqualification of your application.

 

This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicology testing.

 

Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).

 

Employees driving company vehicles will be subject to License Monitoring and must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MTA drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.

 

Additional Criteria for Current Employees:

  • Current Metro-North employees must be in active service to be eligible for consideration.
  • Agreement Employees applying for a position outside of their present craft are required to have worked in your current union for at least one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline to be eligible to apply for a posted position and have completed the agreed upon formal training commitment, including on-the-job training or lock-in requirement, if applicable (for example Signal Trainee, Foreman-In-Training, etc.). If you are transferring to another craft, you may be required to forfeit your seniority in your present union.
  • Non-agreement employees must have worked in their current position for a minimum of one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline. Along with a background investigation (including but not limited to, employment, education, and criminal history), employees are also subject to an internal investigation, which includes an evaluation not limited to discipline records and performance assessments.
