Summary:

Responsible to learn all phases of Central Manpower clerical duties. Must be reliable, responsible and must work any shift and all holidays.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
 
  •  Required to learn and understand the Maintenance of Equipment Department Policies and Union Agreements of the seven crafts governed by the Maintenance of Equipment Department. 
  •  Trainee assigned will be required to properly handle all off-duty occurrences (notifying proper location/supervision) and prepare daily off-duty reports. 
  •  Must maintain the force book, sick log and absence control records. 
  •  Prepare attendance, discipline reports and sick and personal leave day forms. 
  •  Prepare/maintain availability reports, accident incident reports and AR-20s. 
  •  Prepare weekly payroll records using Kronos and computerized payroll systems. 
  •  Troubleshoot and edit all possible payroll problems, adjust vacation and/or personal day over uses. 
  •  Become knowledgeable with various computer programs (Excel, Windows, Lotus, etc.). 
  •  Dispatch the wreck crew. 
Qualifications: 
  •  A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED or TASC) approved by a State's Department of Education or recognized accredited organization. 
  •  Must be organized and have the ability to prioritize workload and handle all assignments in a confidential manner. 
  •  Must be a qualified typist (45WPM). 
  •  Must be proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office, and other software programs. 
  •  Must possess the ability to think and reason in a pressure-filled atmosphere. 
  •  Must possess excellent telephone etiquette skills. 
Training Program: 
  •  The training position will post on all three shifts for a period not to exceed eight weeks. Trainee will be required to become fully qualified during the eight-week period. As part of determining the qualifications, the trainee will be required to work alone during the eight weeks. If the department determines that an employee has qualified in less than the specified period, the employee will be deemed as qualified at that time. Employee awarded trainee position, who fails to qualify within eight weeks, or when it becomes evident that he/she will not qualify, will be terminated under the probationary policy and training agreement Appendix Q-1 of controlling agreement. The eight-week training period may be extended at carrier's direction. 
  •  Trainee will not work on holidays during the training period unless specifically required to do so by the carrier. 
  •  Once qualified, the employee will be assigned to the existing vacancy. 
  •  For 18 months following the qualification of the trainee, the employee will be required to accept temporary vacancies refused by regularly assigned Central Manpower Staff.

Wage Progression: $41.31 is the 100% hourly rate of pay

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include but is not limited to a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written and/ or practical evaluation) and interview. Candidates forfeit further consideration in the process if they fail to participate in any step of the process when scheduled. Make up dates/times will not be given. In addition, LIRR employee applicants must be in their current position for the 12 months immediately preceding the close date of this posting and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record. A record of more than ten sick days without medical documentation in two of the last three years is considered unsatisfactory attendance.  Not all qualified applicants are guaranteed an interview due to the competitive selection process.  A medical examination and safety-sensitive drug/alcohol test may also be required.
