Agency Mission
MTA Construction & Development (C&D) is responsible for the planning, development, and execution of all capital construction projects across the MTA region. Through centralized oversight and management of the MTA’s $64 billion Capital Program, C&D ensures the efficient delivery of critical infrastructure projects that support the region’s vast transportation network. As part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the largest transportation network in North America, C&D plays a key role in modernizing and expanding services that support 15.3 million residents across New York City, Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. Telework
This position is eligible for telework, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.
Job Summary
A Senior Engineering Director Level 1 will demonstrate their ability to work independently and in a team, and manage and succeed in a fast-paced engineering design environment. This candidate will have a proven ability to analyze situations accurately and reach effective decisions based on informed judgment and consultation.
Responsibilities
Duties include:
Assists in leading a team of engineers involved in the concept design, modification, analysis, and construction of MTA C&D projects.
Acts as a team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of designs for MTA infrastructure.
Uses various software and programs to develop/review analysis, design, and plan preparation/review.
Prepares, reviews, and/or approves proposals, contracts, or cost estimates.
Negotiates revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with sub-consultants and clients.
Assists the project management team through creative problem-solving, interactions with agency owners, and the completion of tasks to meet the project schedule.
Provides construction inspection support and engineering oversight on active construction projects.
Review the work of peers and communicate constructive feedback.
Works with the Project Management team for project reviews, change procedures, and commercial and project control updates.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in the appropriate Engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Communications, Track, Signals, Environmental, Fire Protection).
Master's preferred.
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience.
Must have a minimum of six (6) years in a management or supervisory role and/or project manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization.
Competencies:
A registered NYS licensed professional engineer (PE) is required.
Experience in large-scale engineering issues for significant construction projects or projects with highly complex systems is preferred.
Experience leading and managing designers, contractors, subcontractors, and/or vendors.
Demonstrated knowledge of the applicable industry and NYS building and design codes and standards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders at all internal organizational levels to drive project/program outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively.
Must have focus and ability to deliver results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
Must be a proven leader as a change agent and creative/innovative thinker with the ability to align business goals with solutions to drive process improvements.
Must possess excellent team-building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
Alternate Delivery experience preferred.
Proficiency in current design and engineering software and Microsoft Office is required.

Final salary is determined by experience, skill set, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
