Position Objective:
This position will be responsible for assisting in all areas of the Security Department including Security Operations, the Security Command Center, Security Technology, and Video Operations. The Security Specialist will be responsible for retrieving videos, compiling statistics, producing reports, and managing minor projects.
Responsibilities:
Assist in all facets of the Security Department as directed by the Director, Security Operations including:
- Video Operations – assist as needed during video requests, searches, retrievals, archiving, and delivery operations.
- Security Operations- create security messaging to Metro-North Railroad (MNR) employees, develop security training materials, research security solutions, compile Key Performance Indicators (KPI) statistics, produce varying reports, manage minor projects, and support and assist Security Managers.
- Security Command Center (SCC) – troubleshoot videos and access control issues for SCC, and support intranet website with SCC Manager.
- Technology – support the Assistant Chief Security Officer – Video Management & Technology as needed on major security projects and provide technical assistance.
- Continuously advance personal development in varying security training programs
Required Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard industrial security practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage organizational goals.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments with fluctuating priorities.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or comparable software applications.
- Ability to be on call and respond to emergencies or other calls 24/7 as required.
- Available for rotating weekend coverage.
- Valid driver’s license.
The following is/are preferred:
- Experience with electronic video management systems.
- Experience with electronic access control systems.
- Experience with LENEL OnGuard access control systems.
- Knowledge of MNR operations, organization, and territory.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Security or a related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education, and/or technical credentials to include an additional four (4) years of related experience may be considered in place of degree.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in security operations or related functions.
This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.
According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).
Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
