POSITON SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, the Transit Railcar Technology Specialist Intern receives training in railcar technology specialist work. As training progresses, the trainee performs entry‑level assignments and assists with moderately complex railcar technology functions. Responsibilities may include conducting analysis, research, and planning; maintaining technical records; preparing reports; and providing technical support to help resolve operational issues or implement design modifications to railcar systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with tasks related to Communication‑Based Train Control (CBTC) projects.
• Support performance and failure analyses of CBTC electronic systems.
• Review technical documentation including schematics, drawings, wiring diagrams, test procedures, and test reports.
• Support vendor comprehensive CBTC test plans.
• Prepare detailed test reports summarizing findings and results.
• Assist in developing and implementing modification procedures for CBTC and related railcar systems.
• Analyze data downloads from Carborne CBTC and non‑CBTC equipment to identify issues and trends and provide recommendations to management.
• Provide technical support to Maintenance Shops in troubleshooting and diagnosing Carborne CBTC electronic and software system failures.
• Support shop activities related to CBTC equipment and software installations and modifications.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Transit Railcar Technology Specialist Intern:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major sequence of courses in electrical, mechanical, civil, transportation, aerospace or computer engineering, electrical/electronic technology, computer science, cyber security, or related degree.
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Able to review and analyze documentation related to electrical/electronic systems and microprocessor-based controls.
• Ability to work in field environments, including railcar maintenance and overhaul facilities.
• Able to use computer-based data capture software or test equipment and perform data analysis.
• Able to interpret and analyze electronic equipment performance data (i.e. test data, data downloads, on screen data).
• Practical knowledge of electrical/electronic systems, communications networks, and associated interfaces.
• Preferred knowledge of engineering principles as applied to railcar electrical systems and sub‑systems design.
• Troubleshooting of microprocessor based and electronic systems.
• Knowledge of PC based engineering simulation and analysis tools.
• Knowledge of computer software programs used to generate reports, spreadsheets, presentations, and manage or manipulate data.
• Knowledge of MS Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
