Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing oversight at the Power Control Center (PCC) for the IND, BMT and IRT divisions. Supervise power operations to maintain a safe, reliable, and continuous supply of traction power for train service. Ensuring that power is removed and restored only within strictly defined areas for emergency power operations and general orders. Authorize the removal of power equipment (e.g. substation rectifiers or circuit breakers) from service for maintenance, repair, or contract work. Prepare for weather events and respond to unusual occurrences and emergency power operations throughout the system. Coordinate with SCADA personnel to address issues impacting the ability of the PCC to monitor or control substations, circuit breaker houses, or hydraulic equipment assets. Reviews, plans and integrates the activities of other departments and outside agencies which affect the operation of the power system. Provides the safe, coordinated operation of power equipment in conjunction with both internal and external stakeholders. Direct and control the response to all system emergencies and power interruptions to maintain safe operations during periods of fires, floods and other contingencies and minimize their effect on Subway service by effectively distributing personnel and material and disseminating necessary information to upper management and the Operations Control Center. Act on behalf of the General Superintendent, PCC as required.
Education and Experience:
A High School Diploma/Equivalent and six (6) years of related experience, and three (3) years of experience in a managerial/supervisory capacity; OR
A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of NYCT and Subways rules, regulations, policies, and procedures with respect to electrical power maintenance and repair.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of rapid transit operations.
- The ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Selection Method:
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
