SUMMARY
This position will assist the Manager, Inventory Dynamics & Logistical Analytics in the designing, producing, and publication of reports in order to analyze and track inventory trends and performance to support Metro North’s Material Management goals and initiatives. Support the efficient administration of the Material Planning/Analysis subgroup of Material Management by providing complete and continuous oversight of all aspects of material replenishment analysis including the maintenance and safeguarding of all Procurement & Materials Management (P&MM) module security, PeopleSoft maintenance of material catalog, and to provide continued support to both P&MM and its external customers.
This position will assist the Manager, Inventory Dynamics & Logistical Analytics in the designing, producing, and publication of reports in order to analyze and track inventory trends and performance to support Metro North’s Material Management goals and initiatives. Support the efficient administration of the Material Planning/Analysis subgroup of Material Management by providing complete and continuous oversight of all aspects of material replenishment analysis including the maintenance and safeguarding of all Procurement & Materials Management (P&MM) module security, PeopleSoft maintenance of material catalog, and to provide continued support to both P&MM and its external customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and distribute various statistical reports on both a scheduled and on demand basis ensuring accurate analysis for replenishment of stock inventory is performed efficiently utilizing historical trends to assist in predicting future demand trends for inventory.
- Develop, design and prepare data to create Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) reporting for the Material Management area providing guidance to inventory investment.
- Gather and disseminate data for the department’s internal forecast to produce quarterly Board reports, providing visibility for budgetary cash flow preparation.
- Manages and directs the analytical computation of all transactional data to assist and support Material Planning in forward forecast efforts. This includes the oversight, creation and modification of hundreds of queries in support of the P&MM department.
- Manages “Gatekeeper” efforts for PeopleSoft Procurement module security ensuring integrity of data and enforcement of standard protocol. Has direct management responsibility for the creation and upkeep of Metro-North RR’s Materials Catalog within PeopleSoft which has in excess of 41,000 individual stock keeping units, SKU’s, ensuring standardization.
- Acts as liaison, both independently and as support to the Assistant Director Shortage Control & Analysis with MNR internal customers, BSC Management and with senior MNR Management for the purpose of ensuring the coordination and efficient operational delivery of material support of MNR Operating Departments.
- Manages the preparation and maintenance of requirements for Capital Programs for the rehabilitation of Fleet assets.
- Initiates ordering efforts to ensure flow of material matches production plans, adjusting as necessary to meet needs with minimum advance investment of inventory.
- Provide continued catalog and statistical reporting support for both the Maintenance of Equipment as well as the newly created Maintenance of Way materials operations.

- Working knowledge of products and materials procurement terms and conditions, private or public sector purchasing (i.e. MTA Agency, NYS, NYC) and governmental regulations related to discipline (FRA, FTA)
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Strong ability to deal with internal and external customers at all levels
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of inventory & procurement principles, systems and government procurement regulations
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable applications
- Knowledge of Forecasting Practices, Procedures and systems
- Knowledge of Statistical Analysis techniques and their application to trend analysis
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- B.S./B.A. Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, Transportation, Public Administration or an associated field (demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials may be considered in lieu of degree)
- Minimum four years of progressive business experience in material management/material planning, warehousing, operations or purchasing environment
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Transportation, Public Administration or Economics
- Familiarity with Material Management, Planning techniques and/or Railroad maintenance management operations and the associated products and materials
- Familiarity with All-Agency Procurement Guidelines
- Valid Driver’s license
