Compensation:

Salary Range (Grade D/634 Hay Points): $93,473- $132,672

 

Responsibilities:

The Division of Facilities’ Capital Programs group is responsible for high level oversight of multiple multi-million-dollar NYCT Subways’ Capital and Operating projects for the rehabilitation, reconstruction and component repair/replacement of Subways’ above-ground facility buildings throughout the NYCT network.  The selected candidate will be a detail-oriented engineer responsible for leading and managing this engineering group. The Engineering Manager will serve as a key leader and expert in the planning, managing, and monitoring of engineering functions under the supervision of the Senior Director of Facilities Programs.

 

The selected candidate will, under direction but with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgement, initiative and action direct, manage and coordinate the efforts of a team of engineers who perform various duties through all phases of construction projects including (but not limited to), the following: review of design documents; coordinating and liaising with internal and external stakeholders on all aspects of project management (RFI’s, Change Orders, inspections, testing, submittals, O&M manuals, training, warranty claims, invoices etc.); scheduling and coordinating field visits to ascertain project activities and status; assisting NYCT user groups with technical aspects of the project; monitor project performance against established baselines and pursuing opportunities for improved performance; and participation in construction closeout and commissioning efforts on behalf of the end users.

 

In addition, the candidate shall oversee and coordinate staff efforts to identify project issues and risks and ensure timely resolution and mitigation; recommend solutions to management for the resolution of critical issues; manage activities to allow for minimal impact on agency operations and the public; and ensure staff project activities are following established requirements and are in adherence to all relevant standards, guidelines, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

 

Education and Experience:

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in architecture, engineering, or a related field. Six (6) years of related experience and two (2) years must have been in a managerial or supervisory capacity; or a satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.

 

Desired Skills:

NYS PE License preferred. Experience performing site inspections, documenting site conditions and construction activities, coordinating with end users and contractor staff, and responding to contractor requests for information. Proficient in AutoCAD. Understands construction methodology, materials & finishes and furniture specifications. Knowledge of capital design and construction process.

 

Selection Method:

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

 

All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
