Responsibilities:
Under general supervision and with broad scope for the exercise of independent judgment, the incumbent will be responsible to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis as well as time and motion studies related to the repair of electronic equipment at the Central Electronics Shop. The incumbent will also collect and analyze failure rate data, perform quality reviews of process controls, and prepare and present the findings via reports, charts, and graphs to CES management, in the post warranty support of NYCT Communications, Subway Car, Bus Electronics, and Automated Fare Collection electronic equipment. In addition, the incumbent will be required to evaluate and critique maintenance, testing and troubleshooting procedures implemented at CES. Responsibilities will also include: development and execution of test plans and procedures; problem resolution, configuration/provisioning and capacity/performance monitoring; maintain and update CES performance documentation and metrics; liaison with various in-house maintenance groups and user departments; provide technical support, training and knowledge transfer (as required) to operations staff.
Education and Experience:
Senior Quality Control Specialist I-III
1. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university and six years of full-time paid professional experience in quality control including the application of probability and statistics; statistical quality control; experiment design; planning; basic reliability concepts; quality data collection; quality auditing; and/or systems development with quality control programs; or
2. At least 60 credits from an accredited college or university or technical school with specialization in engineering technology or a related field and eight years of the experience described in “1” above; or
3. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must have at least 60 credits from an accredited college, university or technical school with specialization in engineering technology or a related field.
Quality Control Specialist
1. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university, and four years of full-time paid professional experience in quality control including the preparation of detailed plans for inspection of vendor materials, in-process inspection, final inspection, and other types of inspection; the application of non-destructive tests, calibration systems, and valid sampling plans; Or
2. At least 60 credits from an accredited college, university or technical school with specialization in engineering technology or a related field and six years of the experience described in “1” above; Or
3. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must have at least 60 credits from an accredited college, university, or technical school with specialization in engineering technology or a related field.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of electronic system principals and concepts such as power distribution systems, audio transmission and control, analog to digital and digital to analog conversions, digital control systems, configuration and change management.
- Knowledge of Car-borne and wayside network communication schemes.
- Knowledge of transmission network topologies and concepts of operations.
- Ability to use state of the art automated electronic test equipment.
- Ability to create, update, interpret and redlining test procedures, circuit designs and drawing.
- Strong PC skills: Microsoft Office, Visio, and other application.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and business staff.
- Ability to coordinate, schedule and prioritize activities to meet deadlines.
