JOB SUMMARY

This position directs the operations of all stations within the assigned district, which includes assuring customer service, cleaning services, parking, ticket selling, ambassadors, and facility maintenance standards are met. Position must respond to all train emergency disruptions on a 24/7 basis, as well as planned bus operations, and assist customers at all outlying stations. Oversee all station ambassadors at key stations.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises station cleaning, ticket selling and station ambassador forces working within their district. This includes the training and qualification of all ticket sellers and custodians. Assist in the development of customer service standards, techniques, policies and procedures.
  • Directs safety, cost control and personnel administration for all departmental forces headquartered within their district.
  • Assists in the development of customer service, custodial and maintenance standards in the assigned district, assuring all standards are maintained by departmental forces, outside contractors and others working in their district. Signs off on Capital Program proposals and MTA Real Estate development proposals for station properties.
  • Responds to emergencies on a 24-hour / 7-day basis.
  • Interfaces with general public, local and county officials in matters pertaining to stations within their district.
  • Manages scheduled and unscheduled bus service operations in the assigned district to ensure safety and reliability of service.
  • Performs monthly station inspections at various times of the day to ensure that station standards are in compliance.
  • Oversee parking operator’s field performance including preventative maintenance, emergency repair, and snow removal activities, etc. or your assigned district.
  • Select, develop, and motivate staff and provide career development for team members. Provide effective coaching and counseling. Manager team and individual performance. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables staff to develop and contribute to their full potential.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Observes the work performed by contractors, as applicable
  • Reviews invoices and approves them if the work has contractual standards, as applicable
  • Addresses performance issues with the contractor when possible, as applicable
  • Escalates issues to other parties when needed, as applicable
     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and/or comparable applications (i.e. Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • Excellent human relations, customer service (internal and external), and motivational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of collective bargaining agreements (i.e. TCU).
  • Ability to oversee point of sale revenue activities, including the automated and manual collection of fare revenues.
  • Thorough knowledge of station maintenance and ticket selling operations.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as a normal course of business.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as required.

 

The following is/are preferred:

  • Familiarity with Metro-North Railroad Passenger Tariffs.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Associate’s degree (AA) in Accounting, Computer Science, Technology or a related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials to include two (2) additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in an operations environment, preferably in a transportation organization
  3. Minimum 2 years of experience managing a diverse workforce.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).
  • Final salary is determined experience, skillset, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
  • Employees driving company vehicles will be subject to License Monitoring and must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MTA drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
  • To be eligible for consideration for a new role, current MTA employees must complete at least one year of service in their current role prior to applying. Additionally, eligibility to interview is contingent upon maintaining a satisfactory record of job performance, attendance, and disciplinary conduct.
