Salary Range: $119,377 - $188, 693 (Grade A)
Responsibilities:
The NYCT Department of Subways, with over 6,400 subway cars and 472 stations, employs 29,000 individuals who work together 24/7, 365 days a year, to move millions of customers safely to their destinations. These employees operate trains, maintain railcars, assist customers in stations, make critical right-of-way and electronic repairs, and provide technical and analytic support to deliver timely and reliable customer services. Within the Department of Subways, Operations Support provides analytical and management support to the operating divisions.
The Performance Analysis Unit develops, deploys, and maintains industry-leading data-driven performance monitoring tools, coaches Subways operating divisions in the use of those tools to improve service quality and performance, and designs performance improvement pilots to address challenging aspects of Subway operations. In addition, PAU supports the Senior Vice President with data-driven input on organizational strategy, and monitors and reports on trends in Key Performance Indicators. PAU also liaises with other analytical groups in Subways and throughout the MTA to coordinate analytical activities and development of the MTA Data Lake.
PAU applies a range of tools, including Microsoft Power BI, scripts written in R, Python, and SQL, as well as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, in addition to superlative knowledge of the Subway, its equipment, and the operating environment, to execute these tasks.
The Senior Director leads the Performance Analysis Unit, defining the unit's overall strategic direction and setting standards for analytical work in the Department of Subways. The Senior Director coordinates PAU's work within Subways and with strategic partners across the MTA, working with Subways leadership to prioritize the analytical agenda as well as the implementation of performance improvement projects.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree and ten (10) years of full-time professional work experience of which at least four (4) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity Or
- A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must have the four (4) years of managerial/supervisory experience.
Desired Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of performance and/or financial analysis
- A Master’s degree is preferred
- Knowledge of and strong interest in subway design, operations, and maintenance
- Leadership skills to coach and mentor employees, and successfully delegate work
- Extensive knowledge of performance and/or financial analyses
- Demonstrated ability to develop concise and effective briefing documents from complex analyses
- Experience in public sector management
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
