SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Manager, the position is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of a 24/7 warehouse operation by providing oversight and support. Responsibilities include distribution, logistics, facility management, employee relations, and the safeguarding of inventory stock investments. Will oversee a team of Unionized workers that supports this function.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Manager, the position is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of a 24/7 warehouse operation by providing oversight and support. Responsibilities include distribution, logistics, facility management, employee relations, and the safeguarding of inventory stock investments. Will oversee a team of Unionized workers that supports this function.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Front-line supervision of all warehousing and logistics activities in assigned facilities (to include multiple locations) to control receipt, maintenance, and distribution inventory and 24/7, 365-day-year operation of facilities.
- Manage equipment errors and issues utilized at the various locations of Metro-North's warehouses, including the Warehouse Management System, Swisslog, ASRS (automated storage and retrieval system), vertical lift machines, bar code scanners and printers.
- Administer equipment/vehicle preventative maintenance and repair plans to maximize the life of the Department’s material handling/fleet equipment investment and ensure safety of operators.
- Collaborate with management on safety, training, and development programs. Monitor compliance with safe work practices and ensure a safe work environment.
- Coach and develop a team of inventory clerks and stock drivers, managing workforce availability and budget controls in compliance with union agreements.
- Collaborate with management to develop standard operating policies and procedures, identify operating inefficiencies, and implement new processes to improve operations.
- Monitor use of operating budgets.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Material Management and Warehousing methods and procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership, administrative, problem solving, analytical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate effectively in high pressure situations; must be extremely flexible and be able to adapt to change
- Ability to interact with all levels of management and union personnel
- Familiar with of Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable applications
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft or comparable inventory control system
- Strong knowledge of safe work practices as they relate to a warehouse environment
- Valid Driver’s License required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED
- High school diploma
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in material management and/or warehousing
- Minimum of one year of experience being a team lead or working as a supervisor managing a diverse workforce
PREFERRED
- Associates Degree in business, transportation, or a related field; or demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials to include two (2) additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Knowledge of applicable collective bargaining agreements.
- Knowledge of a computerized material management, warehousing, or inventory environment systems including RF barcode technology, and/or Railroad maintenance management operations.
