Responsibilities
 
This position is responsible for directing all maintenance activities at a given New York City Transit or MTA Bus location. Accountable for supplying safe and reliable buses to allow for the daily delivery of a reliable bus service for the riding public. This involves assisting in the developing, implementing and maintaining strict budgets, managing a full-scale disciplinary and labor relations process and directing managers and supervisors to accomplish depot/division goals.
Assist in the directing of the day-to-day facilities and equipment maintenance activities for the mega-depot.

Additional duties and responsibilities

•    Direct all the bus maintenance functions of a mega-depot, during an off tour, including direct responsibility for the performance of subordinate managers in meeting bus availability needs and to ensure safe and reliable service. This includes overseeing day-to-day facilities and equipment maintenance activities. Responsible for keeping the General Superintendent informed of issues.
•    Assist in the preparation of annual resource requirements; review and control budget adherence; identify and implement cost control and other productivity measures; administer contracts with outside vendors; and participate in policy formulation and mega- depot operations
•    Coordinate activities with the Transportation Division and the community at large in response to daily problems and changing priorities. Ensure coordination of mega-depot operations and develop contingency plans in response to changing conditions or problems.
•    Assist in the full range of labor relations activities for the mega-depot during and off tour,
including administering labor agreements, implementing discipline, addressing grievances,
defining depot objectives for labor negotiations and acting on behalf of the mega-depot in union matters
•    Direct the development and implementation of equipment quality control, safety and employee training programs and ensure that equipment and personnel operate safely and effectively.
 
Education and Experience
 
1.    Seven (7) years of related experience, at least three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
2.    Must have one year in the title of Superintendent, Maintenance or equivalent; or
3.    A satisfactory equivalent of the combined education and experience requirements.
 
Desired Skills

•    The ability to manage a large operation.
•    Comprehensive knowledge of Bus maintenance operations including preventative maintenance and equipment specifications.
•    Knowledge of policy development, personnel development, contract administration and labor relations.
•    The ability to analyze information, assess its reliability and make related operational decisions.
•    Strong delegation and prioritization skills.
•    The ability to make decisions rapidly and under pressure while being constrained by the availability of labor and equipment.
