Position Objective:
This position supports the PTC Office in providing technical assistance to various stakeholders. This position also assists with monitoring the PTC Network Management System and the PTC Office Subsystem with control centers at Grand Central and North White Plains and Remote Maintenance Servers and workstations throughout the operating territory.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance and support in person, via phone, and remotely related to the Positive Train Control computer systems, hardware, and software. Perform field and remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques on the PTC system.
- Provide 24/7 monitoring of the PTC Network Management System in collaboration with the PTC System Administration and Engineering team providing active directory support, answering queries, addressing end users and system issues, and recording events, problems, and solutions in the PTC database logging system.
- Interact with multiple external and internal teams and operating departments to support the investigation of failures and provide feedback to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Assist the PTC System Administration and Engineering team providing support with installation and testing associated with the federally mandated Positive Train Control system.
Required Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server configuration and deployment skills.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Desktop configuration and deployment skills.
- Knowledge of VMWARE or comparable virtual deployment.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Active Directory Services configuration and deployment skills.
- Knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN) configuration and deployment.
- Strong analytical skills to analyze new and existing products, equipment and/or procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or comparable applications.
- Must be able to work in a high-profile/high-pressure environment.
- Must be able to manage complex multi-discipline projects.
- Knowledge of Auto CAD, Visio, or comparable programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with internal departments and outside agencies.
- Must be able to implement and participate in Metro-North Railroad’s Priority One Safety Program.
- 24-hour 7-day availability required.
- Valid driver’s license.
The following is/are preferred:
- CCNA, MS Certification
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems or a related science.
- Two (2) years of experience encompassing servers, workstations, and operating systems to include all aspects of Hardware systems administration.
OR
- Associate degree in a related computer science, information systems, or equivalent. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials to include two (2) additional years of related experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Two (2) years of experience encompassing servers, workstations, and operating systems to include all aspects of Hardware systems administration.
Preferred Education/Experience/Training:
- Familiarity with Metro-North Policies and Procedures.
- Knowledge of CFR 49 Part 236, subparts H and I requirements

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.
According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).
Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
