JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting Supervisor MW Machinery in planning, leading, and coordinating the work of employees in their daily assignments. He/she is responsible for the safe and economical use of available labor, materials, and equipment. In addition, an assistant supervisor is required to enforce the Company policy, Local, State, and Federal mandated Rules and Regulations. The assistant supervisor is responsible for the safety and well-being of all employees under his/her jurisdiction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the planning and coordination of maintenance and repairs of LIRR machinery, wayside lubricators, generators, and draw and swing bridges.
- Enforce provisions of Labor Agreements, ensuring communication of same to employees.
- Provide technical support to Maintenance of Way Mechanics and administer tests and evaluations for new Maintenance of Way Mechanics and Structural Welders.
- Inspect the quality and progress of machinery repair work and advise the Supervisor of the status of work.
- Lead Safety Meetings as per policy, conduct Safety Audits, and investigate on-the-job accidents for cause, prevention, and remedial action.
- Log daily completed service reports into the M of W INFOR database and create and assign work orders.
- Review individual employee attendance records and expense accounts, to ensure conformance with Company Policies.
- Review time and payroll reports for accuracy.
- Follow and implement the LIRR OT Approval procedure.
- Monitor spare parts and material usage to ensure proper inventory control.
- Review vehicle and fleet records for usage and accuracy.
- Attend Company meetings as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Must possess one of the following three:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and four years of engineering/railroad-related experience.
OR
2. 5 years’ experience in M of W or construction machinery repairs.
OR
3. Successful completion of the Junior Engineer Program.
• Must possess knowledge in hydraulics, diesel and gasoline engines, electronics, and structural welding.
• Must demonstrate willingness to assume and handle responsibility.
• Must possess prior supervisory experience.
• Must possess proficient computer skills.

OTHER INFORMATION:
Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”). Actual salary offers may vary based on individual work experience. The annual salary range is subject to change and may be modified at the company’s discretion. Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MTA drivers, or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
Current employees should be in their current position 12 months prior to starting a new role and must possess a satisfactory work history. Including attendance and discipline records. Candidates selected for this position may be placed in a competitive or non-competitive class position based on their qualifications
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to, a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written, and/ or practical evaluation) and interview. Candidates forfeit further consideration in the process if they fail to participate in any step of the process when scheduled. Make-up dates/times will not be given. In addition, LIRR employee applicants must be in their current position for the 12 months immediately preceding the close date of this posting and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record. A record of more than ten sick days without medical documentation in two of the last three years is considered unsatisfactory attendance. Not all qualified applicants are guaranteed an interview due to the competitive selection process. A medical examination and safety-sensitive drug/alcohol test may also be required.
