Position Summary

The Process Safety, Risk, and Loss Prevention Engineer will lead efforts to manage and reduce risks related to process safety, property damage, and operational failures. The role will be responsible for embedding global risk management standards across the organization, ensuring comprehensive loss prevention measures, process safety standards, and risk control practices are consistently applied to safeguard both physical and operational assets across all sites. Additionally, the position will support global Responsible Care initiatives by driving improvements in risk management data quality and leading the utilization of the online risk management tool.

Position Responsibilities

  • Identify and Evaluate Economic Loss and Process Safety Risks: Conduct thorough assessments of economic loss scenarios, leveraging loss history, process safety data, and site visits to model potential risk consequences.
  • Internal Risk Profile Communications: Collaborate with site teams to communicate internal risk profile to inform decisions on risk retention and mitigation.
  • Historical Loss Analysis: Analyze historical data on economic losses, process safety incidents & operational risk to uncover trends and insights for risk mitigation and improvement.
  • Standardize Process Safety and Loss Prevention Practices: Lead the development, review, and dissemination of global standards related to this portfolio.
  • Monitor Site Practices: Periodically assessing and validating operational practices, physical infrastructure and fire protection systems to ensure compliance.
  • Prioritize Risk Mitigation and Process Safety Improvements: Collaborate with regional and global teams to identify and prioritize risk and process safety improvement opportunities.
  • Business Continuity & Preparedness: Implement and continuously improve a comprehensive program to prepare for .and recover from property damage, process safety incidents, and business interruption risks.
  • Embed the Risk Management and Process Safety Tools: Lead the integration of the new online risk management tool.
  • Training & Development: Develop and deliver training on the risk management tool and broader risk and process safety assessment principles.
  • Consistency in Risk and Process Safety Assessments: Advise on the alignment of risk and process safety assessments across sites for similar threats.
  • Loss Prevention and Process Safety in Projects: Provide technical support during the planning and execution of major capital projects, advising on loss prevention and process safety measures and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
  • Underwriting Support: Compile and provide necessary information to support risk assessments for major projects.
  • Risk and Process Safety Reporting: Develop comprehensive reports and dashboards for leadership, summarizing risk levels, process safety performance, and loss prevention activities.
  • Leadership Briefings: Present risk assessment findings and progress on risk mitigation and process safety efforts to senior management and the board.
  • Foster a Process Safety and Risk Management Culture: Encourage a proactive approach to Responsible Care, process safety, and risk management across the organization, promoting awareness of best practices and embedding risk-based decision-making.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with global experts in process safety, environmental health, and asset integrity to drive improvements in the Responsible Care program.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Process Safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in process safety, loss prevention, risk management, or a related field within a manufacturing, chemical, or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process safety management, risk management principles, and loss prevention methodologies (e.g., PHA, HAZOP, LOPA).
  • Experience with fire protection systems, reviewing design documents, and assessing operational practices in high-hazard environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of translating complex risk and process safety data into actionable insights.
  • Proven track record of driving improvements without direct control over budgets or operational processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience training and influencing at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Proficient in risk and process safety management software and tools.
  • Some global travel required.
