MetaPhase is seeking a detail-oriented, curious, and proactive Mid-Level Quality Assurance (QA) Tester to join our software development team supporting a federal agency. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in both manual and automated testing within an Agile environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of the client’s system by designing and executing test plans, identifying defects, and collaborating closely with web developers, data engineers, and client stakeholders. The Tester will play a key role in driving quality throughout the software development lifecycle and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
 
Basic Qualifications (Required)
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience.
  • At least three (3+) years of software testing (manual and/or automated) experience.  
  • Experience creating, executing, and maintaining test cases, test scripts, and test plans.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, software development life cycle (SDLC), and QA methodologies.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive system test plans, test scripts, documentation implementation, gap analysis, and test frameworks.
  • Perform and execute various types of testing, including but not limited to: functional (manual, regression and smoke), usability, load and performance testing.
  • Document test results clearly and report defects using defect tracking tools.
  • Verify bug fixes and perform re-testing as needed.
  • Work closely with product owners and cross-functional teams to remove impediments and deliver functional updates.
  • Support sprint planning and backlog refinement by providing input on test coverage and potential risks.
  • Ensure software meets quality standards before deployment to production.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement by suggesting enhancements to QA workflows, tools, or automation strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with federal clients or in a government contracting environment.
  • Experience with using automated testing tools (e.g., Playwright) to support regression testing.
  • Knowledge of database testing and ability to write basic SQL queries to verify data results.
  • Experience testing web-based applications in cloud-based environments (e.g., Azure).

Compensation: 
Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $80k - $90k.
