Senior/Principal Research Associate Scientist, Biology

Biology Cambridge, Massachusetts

Mersana’s Discovery Biology group seeks a motivated, talented, team player to join its DolaLock team as a Senior or Principal Research Associate.  This role is a great opportunity to directly contribute to discovery programs and expansion of Mersana’s proprietary DolaLock auristatin antibody-drug conjugate pipeline. The candidate will generate critical data that directly informs key decisions and will participate in the decision-making process within discovery teams.

What’s in it for you?

You will have a direct impact on high profile discovery programs, and will have the opportunity to expand and develop your technical skills.  You will grow scientifically as a member of the Discovery Biology group, and will learn about the work of colleagues across critical functions for the discovery of novel antibody-drug conjugates, including chemistry, bioconjugation, and pharmacology. You’ll have the opportunity to become the “go-to” subject matter expert in various aspects of our work, and will have visibility within project teams, and within the company. You will immerse yourself in one of the hottest therapeutic modalities in oncology: antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) at a company that is rapidly expanding its clinical pipeline.

How do you know if you’re the right fit?

You love doing experiments and are proficient in a range of different techniques that are integral for antibody-drug conjugate discovery, including mammalian tissue culture, ELISA, flow cytometry and functional assays. Experience with biophysical assays (Octet) and immunohistochemistry is a plus. You’re interested in all aspects of an experiment – hypothesis generation, experimental design, data generation and interpretation, and troubleshooting. You like trying new instruments and developing new assays, and are comfortable asking advice from colleagues when troubleshooting. You are a responsible laboratory citizen who has good organizational skills, keeps clear lab records, and works well with others.  You demonstrate flexibility with shifting priorities, and work well within timelines.  You are motivated by the desire to impact patients’ lives through drug discovery and you appreciate the teamwork that is critical for success.

The other stuff

This role is typically best suited for a B.A/B.S. or M.S. in cancer biology, cell biology, or related discipline, with 4+ years of industry experience in drug development, such as assay development and compound selection.

The position is eligible for bonus awards, stock options, and benefits including medical, dental and life insurance, 401(k) participation, vacation and paid holidays.

The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
