Position Summary

The Data Center System Operator works out of our Kenosha, WI facility. They are responsible for executing recurring tasks required to ensure MIT Cloud and Managed Services are functioning properly (i.e. backups, support, system uptime, etc.).


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive, diagnose, record, track, and resolve service requests from internal/external customers;
  • Monitor service platforms;
  • Identify and resolve issues by following documented support instructions;
  • Escalate service requests/incidents which are out of the scope of duties;
  • Execute production schedule tasks; 
  • Ensure successful customer data backups;
  • Manage tape media;
  • Rotate copies of backups offsite;
  • Confirm media is available;
  • Understand and adhere to corporate policies and procedures such as Information Services, physical security of the Data Center, hardware asset management;
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for improvement within job duties;
  • Be available to periodically to cover shifts for team members;
  • Perform other related duties as requested.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Ability to work regularly between the hours of 2pm and 10pm CST (including weekends);
  • Bachelors Degree in IT (preferred but not required);
  • Experience in data center and customer service environment;
  • Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills;
  • Commitment to customer service;
  • Superior problem-solving skills;
  • Desire to work in 24x7 Production Data Center;
  • Ability to thrive in a small team environment;
  • Working knowledge of O/S platform(s): ISeries, Windows, *nix;
  • Conceptual understanding of virtualization;
  • Conceptual understanding of VIOS, BRMS, IBM iOS, VMware;
  • Conceptual understanding of Networking (Ethernet, TCP/IP);
  • Conceptual understanding of SAN and NAS environments;
  • Conceptual understanding of High Availability replication products;
  • Ability to install hardware (under direction).
