The Program / Department / Team 

The mission of the Resource Development (RD) department is to advance the organization’s strategic goals and support our worldwide team by raising flexible funds, profile and influence. The RD team encompasses several dozen dynamic professionals who possess a wide range of skills. We are gift officers, direct response fundraisers, web developers, marketers and media relations strategists. We are database managers, digital specialists, creative designers, storytellers and teachers. Most of all, we are passionate about Mercy Corps’ mission and believe a better world is possible.

The Position

The Mass Market Fundraising Project Officer sits on the Brand Marketing Operations team and supports the project management and execution of mass market fundraising campaigns including but not limited to direct mail, telefundraising, texting, monthly giving, community giving, and peer-to-peer campaigns. They support tracking and reporting on campaign execution and partner to increase the effectiveness of direct response fundraising processes and tactics across online and offline channels. Throughout campaign lifecycles, they will work closely with the Mass Market Fundraising team, agency partners, and content/creative producers to finalize strategy, develop timelines, and make sure that requirements and deliverables are clear and everyone has what they need to execute successful end-to-end campaigns. They will ensure that all final approvals are complete before campaigns begin, and that campaigns are closed, documented, and evaluated after the fact. During emergency fundraising moments, they are a key communication and information hub for the team.

Essential Responsibilities 

CROSS-CHANNEL CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT

  • Project manage mass market fundraising campaigns throughout the campaign lifecycle, partnering with online and offline marketing and fundraising colleagues.
  • Coordinate multiple project schedules against tight timelines, coordinating deliverables, supporting execution and maintaining process documentation.
  • Utilize and improve upon project management systems to ensure all campaigns are completed on time, target, and budget, optimizing systems to reach and track desired impacts.
  • Coordinate approvals process for campaign components, helping to ensure that all creative and data is fully vetted, reviewed and approved by relevant stakeholder(s) before campaigns launch.
  • Partner with internal teams to gather analytics to support the optimization of campaigns, including integrated campaigns with digital and brand marketing teams.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting on the status of current, completed and upcoming campaigns.
  • Support maintenance of mass market fundraising campaign plans and testing roadmap, helping to optimize related processes.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks, including vendor communications and on-boarding, invoicing, scheduling and support contracting and RFP processes.
  • Maintain systems for ordering and tracking inventory across programs.
Cross-team integration
  • Serve as liaison between Mass Market Fundraising, Digital Marketing, Brand Marketing and Development Operations teams to ensure coordination and continuity across matrixed teams.
  • Cross-train with digital and brand marketing teammates in order to provide backup support and coverage for roles when needed.
  • Coordinate with designers, project managers and editors on the creation of fundraising and marketing materials such as the Mercy Corps calendar, annual report, and sustainer and mid-level program assets.
  • Track deliverables and support activities related to major cross-team marketing campaigns, in collaboration with Brand Marketing, Digital Marketing, Corporation and Foundation teams, High Impact Philanthropy, Dev Ops and other RD teams as needed.
  • Participate in fundraising strategy idea development to generate revenue opportunities.
  • Communicate campaign information and results to stakeholders as needed.
  • Serve as point person for mass market fundraising projects with in-house creative team.

Reports Directly To: Director of Brand Marketing Operations

Works Directly With: Mass Market Fundraising team; Digital and Brand Marketing teams; Development Operations, fundraising consultants, and vendors.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills 

  • 3-5 years experience project managing short and long-term projects from planning to completion in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with direct response fundraising, marketing, or a related field; experience with direct mail, telemarketing, and monthly giving strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating, managing, and optimizing processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – both written and oral. Strong proofreading skills.
  • Experience liaising with outside vendors and consultants.
  • Experience working in matrix-organizations and on cross-functional teams, with expertise building solid working relationships and trust among colleagues.
  • Experience with MS Office, Raisers Edge or equivalent database CRM, and other relevant software strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail and process. 
  • Strong work ethic with ability to set and meet short- and long-term goals.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently as well as coordinate across teams.
  • Flexible approach and an ability to operate effectively amidst change.
  • BA/S preferred.

They have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong people skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers. This person is eager to continue expanding and growing their fundraising and marketing knowledge. They will be passionate about the Mercy Corps mission and share our sense of urgency about the global issues central to our work.
