Salary Level: HQ4 - US Starting Salary for this role will be USD $53,200 to $63,175 commensurate on experience.

Department Summary 
The International Finance (IF) Department plays a key role in supporting financial operations in Mercy Corps’ country programs throughout the world by working collaboratively with country finance staff and providing guidance in grant management, budgeting, accounting and other financial functions in accordance with Mercy Corps’ internal policies and procedures as well as donor regulations.   
The IF Department ensures the timely, complete and accurate reporting of financial information from Mercy Corps’ Country offices and is responsible for ensuring that all financial reporting requirements to donors are met in a timely and accurate way.  The IF Department also works closely and collaboratively with the Headquarters (HQ) Regional Program Team members (RPT) in support of country program objectives as well as the HQ Corporate Finance department in support of agency financial functions. 
  
General Position Summary 
The Global Finance Accounting Analyst, Accounting Senior Coordinator and Accounting Coordinator share the processing of accounting entries and reconciliations for the monthly accounting cycle. 
In addition, the Global Finance Accounting Analyst is primarily responsible for the processing of MCE invoices and support to other ad hoc allocations and financial reviews. 
  
Essential Responsibilities
ACCOUNTING AND STRATEGIC FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
  • Reconcile country intercompany accounts and process journal entries to clear outstanding charges.
  • Review monthly expat payroll entries and process journal entries for charges that need to be manually allocated or adjusted.
    Reconcile expat advances and follow-up on any balance or difference.
  • Other balance sheet G/L reconciliations as needed, particularly around year end.
  • Review fixed assets documentation for processing by Corporate Finance.
  • Process reclasses as requested.
  • Answer accounting questions from IF or country teams.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems to comply with all applicable financial and accounting regulations and Mercy Corps’ internal policies and procedures.

  • Actively learns about safeguarding and integrates it into their work, including safeguarding risks and mitigations related to their area of work

  • Encourages openness and communication in their team; encourages team members to submit reports if they have any concerns using reporting mechanisms e.g., Integrity Hotline and other options 
Supervisory Responsibility 
The Global Finance Accounting Analyst has no supervisory responsibilities.

Reports Directly To: Global Finance Accounting Manager 
Works Directly With: Global Finance team, Regional Finance Team, Global Finance Training, Corporate, Mercy Corps Europe Finance staff, Internal Audit, Grants and Compliance, Ethics, Country Field Finance Managers

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting or a related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience required; non-profit experience preferred.
  • Detail oriented, with proven ability to identify process improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly accounts reconciliations.
  • Experience with MS Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing the compliance /regulatory management of grants from US Government (USAID, BHA, UN) and other agencies preferred.
  • English fluency required; additional fluency in French, Spanish and/or Arabic is highly beneficial.

The successful Global Finance Accounting Analyst will acquire a strong understanding of multi-donor finance and accounting in a relief and development setting and a thorough understanding of Mercy Corps policies and procedures. They must be a strong communicator with the ability to problem solve, prioritize, delegate and work closely with other departments. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining the respect of staff and colleagues will be essential.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions 
This is a remote position within the United States. It may require up to 5% travel per year. Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
