Summary
Under minimal supervision, according to established practice and procedures, plans, organizes and conducts an occupational therapy program for referred patients. Exercises independent judgment in selection of treatment methodology consistent with professional expertise, attending physicians' prescription, and patient assessment for the purpose of restoring and enhancing functional independence. Qualifications: Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of four years of college level training in Occupational Therapy or related field; six to twelve months of experience in order to a) develop proficiency in the performance of treatment modalities, b) develop suitable interpersonal skills, c) learn to design assistive devices, d) become familiar with departmental policy, procedures and so on; analytical ability necessary to evaluate patient condition; interpersonal ability necessary to effectively interact with patients in sensitive or anxiety provoking situation and to explain treatment purpose and procedure, function and purpose of equipment, and so forth; ability to instruct patients, families, staff and other Hospital personnel; physical ability to lift, support, position and manually exercise patients; ability to operate a computer.
What You Will Need
1. Must be a graduate of a professional training program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
2. Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university.
3. NBCOT certification and current Occupational Therapist state of Michigan registration.
4. Basic computer skills.
5. Ability to work in a team environment.
6. Excellent customer service skills necessary to interact with patient/physicians to maintain and promote positive relationships.
7. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to portray a professional customer image.
8. Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
9. Ability to problem solve effectively based on established policies and procedures.
