Description

Menlo School is seeking an exceptional middle school tennis coach. The successful candidate will have competitive tennis coaching experience either at the middle school, high school, college and/or elite club level, the ability to teach tennis fundamentals, and improve the skills of tennis players of varying abilities. 
This is a variable hour, part-time position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist the Head Coach (and sometimes lead) age-appropriate practices.
  • Attend all tennis practices and games.
    • Practice sessions run for 6th grade from 1:05–2:10 p.m., and for 7th/8th grade from 2:15–3:20 p.m. on school cycle days 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7.
    • Games occur in the spring season (approximately March 9th – May 15th) and are after school.
  • Teach skill progressions, rules, strategy, and player/coach etiquette in effective training sessions.
  • Maintain student engagement both physically and verbally during practices.
  • Monitor proper stretching, warm-ups, and emphasize appropriate dress and footwear.
  • Track attendance, keep accurate and up-to-date rosters, and ensure practices start and end on time.
  • Reinforce team guidelines, expectations, and rules for the season.
  • Communicate with athletes and parents regarding schedule changes, team philosophy, discipline issues, or behavioral concerns (while keeping the Athletic Director informed).
  • Supervise athletes before, during, and after practices and matches—including ensuring all students are safely picked up by parents or riding the team bus.
  • Monitor study halls on days when weather prevents practice, prior to games, or when practice is not held.
  • Convey the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and the value of both winning and losing with integrity.
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for all student-athletes, physically and mentally.
  • Report accidents, injuries, or safety hazards promptly to the Athletic Director and complete required documentation.
  • Manage and maintain team equipment, uniforms, scorebooks, and first aid kits. Assist with distributing and collecting uniforms, ensuring they are returned clean.
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach, Athletic Trainers, Sports Performance Coaches, other coaching staff, and Facilities personnel.
  • Represent and teach Menlo Athletics’ Mission and Values as an integral part of the educational experience (below).
  • Bring fun, positivity, and joy to both practices and competitions.
Minimum Requirements:
  • At least three years prior tennis playing and/or coaching experience at the middle school, high school, college and/or elite club level.
  • Experience that includes knowledge of National Federation High School (NFHS) rules and regulations of the sport and a knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation is preferred.
  • Experience helping students learn by exploring and interacting with their environment is preferred. 
  • Possession of valid, unexpired CPR, and First Aid certifications.
  • NFHS Coaching certification.

Pay range:
In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position for the 2025-2026 pay range will be $23.00 - $43.00 per hour. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for Menlo School in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
