Location: Studio City, CA

The Role:
Mendocino Farms is looking for a Controller that is a dynamic, personable, detailed, organized and well-spoken individual with a ton of positive energy.  A transformational leader with demonstrated ability to influence, motivate, create and drive value-added change in the department and throughout the organization.  The Controller establishes financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information.  Responsibilities also include management and oversight of outsourced accounting group.

 

Controller Responsibilities:

  • Manage the timely and accurate preparation of consolidated financial statements
  • Manage month-end and year-end Close processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP principles as well as federal, state and local financial requirements
  • Oversee weekly Cash Flow reporting and management
  • Management of outsourced accounting group
    • Weekly store-level accounts payable invoice processing
    • Weekly cash disbursement review and approval
    • Monthly review and approval of all general ledger entries and financials
    • Monthly review of third-party delivery partner activity
    • Sales and payroll tax review and approval
    • Reconcile and validate all balance sheet account balances
    • Communication and collection of outstanding A/R
  • Treasury / banking management
  • Risk management
  • Payroll management
  • New store business licensing
  • Manage year end close and audit process
  • Identify and leverage systems to provide timely and robust analytics and automate reporting and analysis
  • Partner with other departments to provide strategic and analytical insights
  • Confirm financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinate the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data; prepare special reports
  • Maintain accounting controls and define accounting policies and procedures
  • Maintain financial security by establishing internal controls
  • Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; apply observations and recommendations to operational issues
  • Support operations through weekly and monthly reporting
  • Execute and/or coordinate general accounting and related activities
  • Avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforce accounting regulations; recommend new procedures
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations
  • Manage external audits (Sales Tax, Personal Property Tax, Workers Compensation, etc)
  • Responsible for training, development and management of staff

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting – CPA required
  • Experience in restaurant and/or multi-unit retail company a plus
  • Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (“ERP”) implementation and/or multiple ERP systems
  • 10+ years progressively responsible experience in accounting
  • Experience in identifying, implementing and leveraging disparate systems to provide timely and robust reporting and analytics
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of GAAP, accrual basis accounting and financial reporting
  • Strong management skills and ability to identify, build and motivate a talented team
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including proficiency in Excel
  • Proven team player and cross-functional partner
  • Driven personality and desire to grow with the company
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, math and analytical skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member in resolving related problems and/or issues
  • Attention to detail

Physical requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • The ability to speak on the phone for up to 8 hours a day
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
