What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Level 3 or Level 4) to help scale, stabilize, and evolve core platform services that power critical functionality across Meltwater. In this role, you’ll work on high-impact, high-traffic systems focused on authentication, permissions, provisioning, and other foundational capabilities that enable product teams to move faster without sacrificing reliability. You’ll play a key role in improving performance, reducing technical debt, and driving long-term platform evolution in a Node.js environment, with an ongoing transition from JavaScript to TypeScript. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who thrives on ownership, enjoys solving complex backend challenges, and wants to influence system architecture at scale.

What You'll Do:

  • Build, maintain, and improve backend services that support company-wide functionality
  • Develop production-grade Node.js services using JavaScript and TypeScript
  • Migrate existing JavaScript services to TypeScript to improve scalability and maintainability
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks (caching, async processing, latency, throughput)
  • Reduce technical debt and simplify service architecture for long-term efficiency
  • Improve system observability, monitoring, and operational readiness
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems and ensure reliability
  • Collaborate closely with product, frontend, and UX teams to deliver scalable features
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, service design, and platform evolution
For more senior scope (Level 4):
  • Own backend services end-to-end, from design through production support
  • Lead technical initiatives including migrations, refactoring, and system improvements
  • Drive cross-team collaboration and influence engineering standards and best practices
  • Mentor engineers and provide guidance on technical design and execution

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience building and maintaining backend services in production environments
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience working with high-traffic or business-critical systems
  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs (GraphQL experience is a plus)
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Knowledge of performance optimization techniques (caching, async processing, data access patterns)
  • Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Jasmine)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred; alternatives like CircleCI, Jenkins, etc. acceptable)
  • Experience monitoring, debugging, and operating production systems
  • Comfort working in distributed, cross-functional teams
Infrastructure & Platform:
  • Experience with cloud environments (preferably AWS: Lambda, EC2/Beanstalk, SNS/SQS, S3)
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
  • Exposure to Kubernetes is a plus
Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Experience leading projects, features, or technical initiatives
  • Ability to influence architecture and technical direction
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to independently identify and drive improvements
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with product and UX teams
AI & Developer Productivity:
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, OpenAI tools) to improve development workflows
  • Ability to apply AI to enhance code quality, testing, and development speed
  • Experience contributing to prompts, guidelines, or best practices for AI usage within engineering teams
Nice to Have:
  • Experience owning shared or platform-level services
  • Background in authentication, authorization, or identity systems
  • Experience refactoring legacy systems or consolidating services
  • Experience supporting systems used by multiple downstream teams
